AR33.15-P-0160R Remove/Install Torque Strut at Front Axle

DANGER:
- Risk of death. Death may result if vehicle slips or topples from the lifting platform.
- Align vehicle between the columns of the lifting platform and position the four support plates at the lifting platform support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.
CAUTION: See notes on self-locking nuts and bolts
1 Remove front wheel.
2.1 Remove bottom engine compartment paneling
NOTE: Only front and center sections.
2.2 Remove bottom section of soundproofing capsule
NOTE: Only front and center sections.
3 Remove paneling under the front corner of the bumper
4 Press the tie rod joint (10a) from the stub axle unit (5)
CAUTION: When working on the front axle, take care to prevent leaving scratches, cracks or notches in the surfaces of the aluminum components. Otherwise the service life of the parts will be reduced.
5 Unscrew nut on ball joint of torque strut (18)

6 Press radius rod (18) out of steering knuckle (5).
7 Unscrew nut (18c)
CAUTION: The bolt (18a) must not be turned when loosening the nut (18c). It is essential to counterhold the bolt. Otherwise the locating tabs for caster adjustment in the rubber mount with be sheared off if the repair kit is installed.
NOTE: Installation: Screw on nut (18c) of bolt (18a) until it abuts, but do not tighten yet so that the rubber mount of the torque strut (18) can twist when the suspension deflects. Tighten nut (18c) with the vehicle in curb position.
8 Remove radius rod (18) from front axle carrier.
9 Check ball joint rubber boot.
NOTE: Replace tension arm (18) if necessary.
10 Inspect rubber mount (18d) of tension arm.
NOTE: Replace tension arm (18) if necessary.
11 Install in the reverse order
NOTE: Installation: Only tighten bolts and nuts of the chassis components in the curb condition.
12 Perform chassis alignment check.
