Component Identification:

Location
The oil pump is installed in the automatic transmission behind the starting clutch, and is driven over the starting clutch's drive spigot.

Task
The oil pump generates the oil pressure necessary for the hydraulic processes.

Design
An external gear supported eccentrically on bearings in the pump housing is located on the internal gear connected to the drive spigot. The crescent guides the external gear.

Function
When the engine is running, oil is delivered through the suction gallery along the top and bottom side of the crescent to the pressure chamber of the housing. The meshing of the teeth prevents oil from flowing from the pressure side to the suction side.
