Air distribution duct
The air distribution duct and the existing air outlets for supplying fresh air to the interior of the vehicle are shown by means of arrows.
Temperature-controlled air (red/blue arrows) flows out at all air outlets.
The ventilation system is primarily subdivided into the heating operation cooling operation. and the cooling operation.
Heating mode
Two objectives are basically pursued in the heating mode:
^ Clear visibility through the windshield and front side windows
^ Rapid heating-up and uniform temperature regulation of the interior
In the initial phase the temperature at the head area is specifically increased in order to satisfy the initially increased heat demand of the occupants. The temperature and the duration depend on the ambient temperature and the interior temperature.
As regards unrestricted visibility, particular controlling measures are taken in the initial phase, depending on the ambient conditions, to accelerate defrosting of the windows.
In the closed-loop operation use is made primarily of the footwell vents for climate control of the interior. The center nozzle is closed.
The controlling measures for defrosting are reduced.
If the soft top is open the lateral nozzles and center nozzles are integrated into the heater operation and controlled such that even at cooler ambient temperatures, the driver and front passenger are surrounded by a warm heat flow.
Bi-level mode
In the bi-level mode the interior is temperature-controlled by a combination of the footwell and middle vents.
The aim is to produce a stratification which ensures that the occupants have warm feet cool head.
Depending on the tendency of the controller status the air distribution is altered more in the direction of the heating or cooling mode.
Cooling mode
The objective in the cooling operation is to cool down the interior rapidly and to ensure a uniform temperature.
In the maximum cooling mode misting up of the windows is not generally a problem and therefore does not require any special measures.
In the initial phase the temperature at the head area is specifically lowered. The temperature and the duration depend on the ambient temperature and the interior temperature.
In the closed-loop control mode use is made primarily of the middle vents for climate control of the interior.
