Bluetooth
For simple and fast integration of a mobile phone into the vehicle the COMAND controller unit (A40/3) supports the Bluetooth standardized network technology. Bluetooth is a worldwide open standard for connecting Bluetooth devices (e.g. mobile phone) wirelessly and is based on radio technology in the 2.4 GHz range One advantage of Bluetooth, next to the wide availability of Bluetooth devices, is the uncomplicated and spontaneous connection of Bluetooth devices to a Bluetooth network (ad-hoc network). The extremely high data security (128-bit encoding) and the relatively limited radius (approx. 10 m) of such a Bluetooth network is what makes the use of Bluetooth in the vehicle interesting.
The COMAND controller unit can integrate the latest-generation mobile phones over the Bluetooth interface of the mobile phone and the Bluetooth antenna (A2/91) into the vehicle hierarchy.
If a mobile phone has not logged onto the COMAND controller unit via Bluetooth then a search can be run for Bluetooth-compatible devices over the Audio/COMAND control panel (A40/9) and the Audio/COMAND display (A40/8).
If Bluetooth devices were found, the user is notified of all the Bluetooth devices listed in terms of trustworthiness ("trust" or "untrust"). The user can then authorize available Bluetooth devices (log on), interrupt connections to trustworthy Bluetooth devices or deauthorize Bluetooth devices.
A Bluetooth-compatible mobile phone can only be operated in the vehicle if a mobile phone is not connected to the mobile phone electrical connector (X39/37).
