- Name of road onto which the next turnoff should be made
Voice output can be emitted in the following languages:
- German
- English (UK and USA)
- French
- Spanish
- Italian
- Dutch
- Danish
- Swedish
- Portuguese
- Turkish
- Russian
- Chinese (traditional or simplified)
Special information on the voice output is issued in the following cases:
- Destination in area with restricted traffic access
- Route via ferry
For vehicles except code (494) USA version, additional information is provided in the following instances:
- Destination in area not accessible by car
- Route via toll road
Further voice outputs take place at the start of the route calculation, when an intermediate destination has been reached, or when the destination has been reached. On vehicles except cod (494) USA version, for dynamic route guidance, additional voice messages are issued in response to routes influenced by traffic messages.
Operating instructions
The COMAND control unit (A40/3) is operated through the following components:
- With the buttons on the COMAND controller unit
- Using the Audio/COMAND control panel (A40/9)
- Using the left multifunction steering wheel button group (S110) and the right multifunction steering wheel button group (S111)
During an active voice output the volume of the announcement can be adjusted by the following components:
- With the volume control on the COMAND controller unit
- The + and - buttons for setting specific functions and volume control (S111s1) of the right multifunction steering wheel button group
Function sequence for route guidance through voice outputs
The navigation processor of the COMAND controller unit combines the word segments into complete instructions or information during a voice output and generates low frequency (LF) signals. The LF signals are forwarded, if necessary, via Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) to the sound system amplifier control unit (N40/3) (with code (810) Sound system), where they are amplified and output via direct lines to the following speakers:
- Left front door speaker (H4/1)
- Right front door speaker (H4/2)
- Center instrument panel speaker (H4/27)
On vehicles except code (810) Sound system, the LF signals are amplified in the COMAND controller unit and forwarded over direct lines to the following speakers:
- Left front door speaker
- Right front door speaker
