Power transmission, general

The term "power flow" refers to the transmission paths of driving power and engine torques. The engine torques are transmitted to the drive wheels via the mechanical-hydraulic connection of the engine, the wet clutch, the downstream automatic transmission and rear axle differential.

Power transmission in the wet clutch ensues through the nonpositive connection of the internal and external plates, which are pressed together by the clutch piston. The pressure in the clutch piston is regulated through the wet clutch control solenoid valve (Y3/8y9).

Via the gear wheels of the individual planetary gear sets the torques coming from the wet clutch, depending on the gear ratio and operated shift elements, are passed on to the transmission output shaft via the multidisk clutches and multidisk brakes.

A reduction of the output speed in the low gears provides lower vehicle speeds with high tractive forces and drive torques at the drive wheels.
