^ COMAND controller unit (A40/3) activated via the ON button

TV mode, general
The TV mode enables the vehicle to receive television channels on the Japanese National Television System Committee frequency range and to view them via the Audio/COMAND display (A40/8). As of 1.6.09, reception is digital via Integrated Services Digital Broadcasting - Terrestrial.
The interface is generated by the COMAND controller unit and shown on the Audio/COMAND display.

The TV picture is switched off for safety reasons as of v ≥5 km/h. When the vehicle is moving, only acoustic playback remains active and a warning message is shown on the Audio/COMAND display.

The TV functions can be selected, activated and set with the following components:
- Audio/COMAND control panel (A40/9)
- Voice control system microphone (B25/7)
- Left multifunction steering wheel button group (S110) and right multifunction steering wheel button group (S111)

TV mode includes the following function sequences:
^ Receipt of TV signals
^ Output of video signals
^ Audio signal output

Receipt of TV signals
The antenna signals for TV reception are received by the following antenna amplifiers:
- Via TV1 antenna in the rear window:
- TV 1 antenna amplifier and DAB Band III (A94/1)

- Via TV2 antenna in the windshield:
- TV 2 antenna amplifier (A94/2) (model 204.2)
- TV 2 and KEYLESS-GO antenna amplifiers (A94/2) (model 204.0/9)

- Via TV3 antenna in the windshield:
- TV 3 antenna amplifier (A94/3)

The antenna amplifiers forward the signals to the TV tuner control unit (N143) (up to 31.5.09) or to the TV digital tuner (A90/3) (as of 1.6.09).

Upon receiving a television channel, the TV tuner control unit (up to 31.5.09) or the TV digital tuner (as of 1.6.09) generates audio and video signals.

Output of video signals
The video signals are transmitted via a Y-brightness (luminance)/ C-color information (chrominance) (Y/C) line to the COMAND controller unit and from there via a low voltage differential signal (LVDS) line to the Audio/COMAND display.

Output of audio signals
The TV tuner control unit (up to 31.5.09) sends the audio signals via a direct line to the COMAND controller unit, which then actuates the following speakers:
- Left front door speaker (H4/1)
- Right front door speaker (H4/2)
- Left rear door speaker (H4/3)
- Right rear door speaker (H4/4)

The TV digital tuner (as of 1.6.09) sends the audio signals via Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) to the COMAND controller unit, which then actuates the following speakers:
- Left front door speaker
- Right front door speaker
- Left rear door speaker
- Right rear door speaker

Additional functions
The TV digital tuner (as of 1.6.09) supports the following additional functions:
- Electronic Program Guide
Enables reception and display of information about the broadcast (e.g. title, time, duration of broadcast, encryption, program category, age restriction).
- Broadcast Markup Language (BML)
Enables the reception and structured display of information that is sent by the available stations (e.g. on the weather, news, traffic information).
Reception of regional information is also possible.
- 2 languages are supported, depending on station availability (e.g. Japanese and English).
