General
The Auto Pilot System (APS) can be operated with the following controls:
- Control buttons on radio with Auto-Pilot-System (A2/56)
- Audio/COMAND control panel (A40/9)
- Left multifunction steering wheel button group (S110) and right multifunction steering wheel button group (S111)
- Voice control system (VCS) (with code (511) Audio 50 APS incl. DVD changer)

These operating instructions consist of the following subfunctions:

Menu "Radio"
The "Radio" menu is activated using the "Radio" hardkey, the application executed last is started. If a different application is to be started, the "Radio" hardkey must be pressed repeatedly until the required menu item is selected in the "Radio" menu.

The "RADIO" menu subfunction comprises the following additional subfunctions:
^ Radio (FM/AM (SW/LW/MW))
^ Digital Audio Broadcasting (Digital Radio) (DAB) (with code (537) Digital radio)

Radio (FM/AM (SW/LW/MW))
The menu item Radio in the "RADIO" menu can be activated with the "RADIO" hardkey. The default screen appears. The following are shown on the audio/COMAND display (A40/8):
- Status line (current station frequency)
- Application field (stations currently receivable and numbers of their memory locations (station name with radio data system (RDS) or frequency)
- Function bars ("Radio", "Memory", "Info" and "Tone")

The "Radio" hardkey can be used to switch between the following wavebands:
- "FM" (UHF)
- "MW" (medium wave)
- "KW" (short wave)
- "LW" (long wave)

In the following menu items, the corresponding submenus can be called on the audio/COMAND display:
- "RADIO" menu item
- "Station list" (for FM mode or DAB mode (with code (537) Digital radio))
- "Frequency entry"
- "Fix frequency" RDS (for FM mode)
- "TA" (Traffic Announcement)

- "Memory" menu item
- "Auto memory"
- Stored station (1 to 10)

- "Info" menu item (information on current station)
- "Tone" menu item
- "Treble"
- "Bass"
- "Bal/Fad"
- "Tone" ("Logic7" on/off) (with code (810) Sound system)

DAB (with code (537) Digital radio)
The "DAB" menu item in the "RADIO" menu be activated with the "RADIO" hardkey. The default screen appears. The following are shown on the audio/COMAND display:
- Status lines (name of set ensembles, application field, currently receivable stations and number of their memory locations)
- Function bar ("DAB", "Memory", "left double arrow button" "right double arrow button" and "Tone")

In the following menu items, the corresponding submenus can be called on the audio/COMAND display:

Menu "Disc"
The "DISC" menu can be activated with the "DISC" hardkey. The application last executed is started. If a different application is to be started, the "Disc" hardkey must be pressed repeatedly until the required menu item is selected in the "Disc" menu. The "Disc" menu subfunction comprises the following additional subfunctions:
^ "CD" or "DVD"
^ "MP3"
^ "Media interface" (with code (518) Media interface)
^ "AUX"

"CD" or "DVD"
The "CD" or "DVD" menu item in "DISC" menu be activated with the "DISC" hardkey. The default screen appears. The following are shown on the audio/COMAND display:
- Status lines (no display)
- Application field (type of data storage device ("CD" or "DVD"))
- Function bar ("CD" or "DVD", "Track list", "Changer" (with code (511) Audio 50 APS incl. DVD changer) and "Tone")

"MP3"
The "MP3" menu item in the "DISC" menu can be activated with the "DISC" hardkey. The default screen appears. The following are shown on the audio/COMAND display:

- Application field (data storage device type (MP3), data storage type position in media list, track number, track name, track playing time, graphical time and track display, current playback option and current folder)
- Function bar ("MP3", "Folder", "Changer" (with code (511) Audio 50 APS incl. DVD changer) and "Tone")

The menu item "Media Interface" in the "DISC" menu can be activated with the "DISC" hardkey. The default screen appears. The following are shown on the audio/COMAND display:
- Status line (artist)
- Application field (current track number, track name, graphical time and track display, name of current album and symbol for connected medium (e.g. iPod))
- Function bar ("Media interface","Music", "Changer" (with code (511) Audio 50 APS incl. DVD changer) and "Tone")

The submenu selection depends on the active source.

In the following menu items, the corresponding submenus can be called on the audio/COMAND display:

- "Folder mix" (only with USB mass storage device if folder has been selected)

"Aux"
The "AUX" menu item can be activated in the "DISC" menu. The default screen appears. The following are shown on the audio/ COMAND display:
- Status lines (no display)
- Application field (no display, 2 speaker symbols only)
- Function bar ("AUX" and "Tone")

In the following menu items, the corresponding submenus can be called on the audio/COMAND display:

As of 1.6.09: the selection "Standard" and "Boost" are available in the "Volume" menu for the audio source Aux (via Media interface adapter cable (with code (518) Media interface) or over serial Aux socket). The "Boost" settings increases the input level.

The menu guidance and representation of the connection possibilities are shown on the audio/COMAND display and depend from the corresponding connected portable multimedia terminal.

Basic function 6 disc DVD changer (with code (511) Audio 50 APS incl. DVD changer)
The CD/DVD eject and load button is actuated. The default screen appears.
Control within the menu is possible either with the buttons on the radio with Auto-Pilot system or on the audio/COMAND control panel.

Selection possibilities in menu:
- Back (previous menu is called)
- Eject all (all CDs or DVDs loaded are automatically ejected one after another)
- Fill empty locations
- Magazine can be filled one after another

CDs or DVDs, which are rejected and not removed are automatically pulled back in.

"NAVI"menu
The "NAVI" menu item can be activated with the "NAVI" hardkey. The default screen appears. The following are shown on the audio/COMAND display:
- Status lines (no display
- Application field (display with compass)
- Function bar ("Navi", "TMC", ear symbol (only visible during navigation when navigation active) and "Destination")

The following two variants are available:
- Basic telephony (without code (386) Mobile phone)
- Comfort telephony (with code (386) Mobile phone)

The Telephone (Tel) menu can be activated with the "TEL" hardkey. The default screen appears. The following are shown on the audio/COMAND display:
- Status bar
- Name of network provider, field strength of mobile telephone network, readiness indicator (telephone call active or not) or envelope symbol (for Short Message Service (SMS), with code (386) Mobile phone)
- Application field
- Symbol representing a mobile phone keypad and speller with characters for entering call numbers
- Function bar ("Telephone", "Name", "SMS" (with code (386) Mobile phone) and "Call lists")

The associated submenus can be called in the following menu items:

- "Bluetooth telephone"

Bluetooth-capable devices can only be connected to the radio with Auto-Pilot system if they support hands-free profile (HFP) 1.0 or 1.5.

The entries in the telephone book on the mobile phone can be transferred to the radio only by means of "vCards".

The system settings can be activated with the "SYS" hardkey. The default screen appears. The following are shown on the audio/ COMAND display:

The Tone menu can be activated by selecting the "Tone" menu item in the current menu. The default screen appears. The following are shown on the audio/COMAND display:

- Application field (bar or status displays for current settings (-10 to +10))
- Function bar ("Treble", "Bass", "Bal/Fad" and "Tone" (with code (810) Sound system))
