GF82.60-P-2020CE Media Interface Function

GF82.60-P-2020CE Media Interface Function
- with CODE (518) Media interface

General function requirements
^ C. 30g ON or C. 15R ON

The electronic ignition lock control unit (N73) transmits circuit status c. 15 to the interior CAN (CAN B).

Media interface, general
The media interface function is also called "Universal Consumer Electronic Interface".

The following portable devices can be connected to this universal consumer electronic interface cable using an adapter cable:
- AUX unit (class 1) (e.g. MP3-player)
- "iPod"
- Universal serial bus (USB) unit ("Device Subclass 6") (e.g. USB sticks, USB hard disks)

The AUX socket in the glove box is eliminated.

The portable device can be connected depending on the vehicle equipment with an adapter cable, the media interface electrical connector (X18/67), media interface control unit (N125/1) and media-oriented system transport (MOST) to one of the following control units, called audio equipment in the following text:
- Radio (A2) (model 204.9 with code (523) Radio MB Audio 20 and code (494) USA version)
- Radio with auto-pilot system (A2/56) (with code (525) Radio MB Audio 50 APS or code (511) Audio 50 APS incl. DVD changer)
- COMAND control unit (A40/3) (with code (527) COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation) or code (512) COMAND APS incl. DVD changer or code (528) COMAND incl. DVD changer)

The following data formats are supported:
- MP3
- Windows Media Audio (WMA)

As of 1.6.09 (without code (523) Radio MB Audio 20 and code (494) USA version): With audio source "Aux" (over media interface adapter cable) "Standard" and "Boost" can be selected under menu "Volume". The input level can be increased by selecting "Boost".

If the audio equipment does not support the connected portable device, the battery in the portable device is completely discharged or the media interface connector is defective, a corresponding message is output via the audio-/COMAND display (A40/8).

The portable devices listed are controlled using one of the following controls:
- Buttons on audio equipment
- Audio/COMAND control panel (A40/9)
- Left multifunction steering wheel button group (S110) and right multifunction steering wheel button group (S111)

On vehicles with code (512) COMAND APS incl. DVD changer or code (527) COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation) or code (528) COMAND incl. DVD changer, video data can also be processed or displayed.

Menu guidance is displayed on the audio-/COMAND display, depending on the portable device connected:

Function sequence for media interface
The media interface control unit is supplied with power via two direct lines (c. 31g and c. 30g).
Connection of the portable terminal is recognized by the media interface control unit.
Selection of the "Media interface" menu item and the specific submenus is possible using one of the following controls:
- Buttons on audio equipment
- Audio/COMAND control panel
- Multifunction steering wheel button groups

The control signals from the buttons on the "Audio equipment" are processed internally.
The settings are transmitted over the audio/COMAND control panel to the audio equipment via the telematics CAN (CAN A).
The control signals of the multifunction steering wheel button groups are forwarded to the "audio equipment" via the following route:
- Steering LIN (LIN E1)
- Steering column module control unit (N80)
- Chassis CAN (CAN E)
- Instrument cluster (A1)
- Interior CAN

After the audio equipment has processed the control signals, it transmits the corresponding requests to the portable device over the following path:
- MOST
- Media interface control unit
- Media interface electrical connector
- Adapter cable

The portable device connected evaluates the requests and sends the corresponding audio signals and data to the "Audio equipment" via the following route:
- Adapter cable
- Media interface electrical connector
- Media interface control unit
- MOST

Video signals and data (with code (527) COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation) or code (512) COMAND APS incl. DVD changer or code (528) COMAND incl. DVD changer) are transmitted over a Y-brightness (luminance)/C color information (chrominance) (Y/C) line to the COMAND control unit. The video signals and data are edited internally by the COMAND control unit and transmitted to the audio-/COMAND display over a low voltage differential signal (LVDS) line.

On vehicles without code (810) Sound system, the audio signals are output directly by the radio to the following speakers:
- Left front door speaker (H4/1)
- Right front door speaker (H4/2)
- Left rear door speaker (H4/3)
- Right rear door speaker (H4/4)

on vehicles with code (810) Sound system, the audio equipment transmits audio signals via MOST to the sound system amplifier control unit (N40/3). The sound system amplifier control unit processes them and relays them to the following speaker via a direct line:
- Left front door speaker
- Right front door speaker
- Left rear door speaker
- Right rear door speaker
- Center dashboard speaker (H4/27)
- Bass speaker (H4/29) (model 204.0/2)
- Left rear surround speaker (H4/54)
- Right rear surround speaker (H4/57)

On model 204.0 the right rear surround speaker is integrated into the bass speaker. On model 204.9 the audio signals for the rear bass speaker (H4/38) are transmitted by the sound system amplifier control unit to the rear bass speaker amplifier (N40/9) and from there over direct line to the rear bass speaker.
