^ Actuates output media

Central operating and display unit for the entertainment and communication systems integrated into the vehicle
The radio provides the user with a structured and uniform interface.
- RADIO (FM, AM, Weatherband (WB), satellite digital audio radio (satellite radio) (SDAR) (with code (536) SIRIUS satellite radio))
- DISK (CD/MP3/media interface (with code (518) Media interface)/AUX)
- TEL (telephone with telephone book function, SMS (with code (389) Mobile phone preinstallation with universal interface, USA/Canada), call lists)

Reads in the controls and input signals
The input factors are read in via the following connections:
^ Direct line
^ Controller Area Network (data bus/CAN bus) (CAN)
^ Media Oriented System Transport (MOST)

Direct line
The radio is equipped with the following direct connections:
- Circuit 30g
- Circuit 31
- Wake-up for MOST (bidirectional)
- Telephone MUTE
- FM, AM and CL [ZV] antenna amplifier (A2/18), for model 204.0
- Antenna amplifier for rear window FM antenna (A2/19)
- Antenna amplifier 1 for rear window (A2/71), for model 204.9
- Bluetooth antenna (A2/91)
- AUX input (accessible in glove compartment), except code (518) Media interface

CAN
The radio is an interior CAN (CAN B) subscriber. It communicates with the instrument cluster (A1) or the electronic ignition lock control unit (N73), for example.
The radio is a telematics CAN (CAN A) subscriber. It communicates with the Audio/COMAND display (A40/8) or the Audio/COMAND control panel (A40/9), for example.

MOST
Control and audio signals from the following control units:
- Sound system amplifier control unit (N40/3), with code (810) Sound system
- Satellite digital audio radio (SDAR) control unit (N87/5), with code (536) SIRIUS satellite radio
- Media interface control unit (N125/1), with code (518) Media interface

Evaluation of input factors
The input values are processed in the radio.

Actuates output media
The output media are transmitted via the following connections:
^ Direct line
^ CAN
^ MOST

Direct line
The following direct output signals are possible:
- Audio OUT (speakers), except code (810) Sound system
- External fan (power supply, speed control and diagnosis) (optional)
- Switch voltage for the mobile phone cradle (A34/15) via the contact plate and the Bluetooth module (A34/7), with code (389) Mobile phone preinstallation with universal interface, USA/Canada
- Video OUT: low voltage differential signaling (LVDS) line, transmits picture signals from the COMAND controller unit to the Audio/COMAND display via a copper line

The radio generates a structured and standard interface, which is then shown on the Audio/COMAND display.

CAN
The radio is an interior CAN subscriber. It communicates with the instrument cluster or the electronic ignition lock control unit, for example.
The radio is a telematics CAN subscriber. It communicates with the Audio/COMAND display or the Audio/COMAND control panel, for example.

MOST
Control and audio signals to following control units:
- Sound system amplifier control unit, with code (810) Sound system
- Control unit for satellite digital audio radio (SDAR) with code (536) SIRIUS satellite radio
- Media interface control unit with code (518) Media interface

Function
The buttons for the operating panels on the radio are read in and made available to the integrated central computer. Button actuation is processed further in the central computer. If the "ON" button on the radio is pressed, the radio switches on. The volume for the audio source set in each case can be regulated by turning the ON button. Pressing the function keys in the left button panel enables the user to switch to the desired system components.

CD drive
The integrated CD drive can be used to play audio CDs (including in MP3 format).
