GF07.61-P-4017CY ME Tumble Flap Switchover Function
GF07.61-P-4017CY ME Tumble Flap Switchover Function
- up to model year 08
Component Identification:
In the variable intake manifold the tumble flaps can be swiveled out in any intake port at partial load. This reduces the cross-section of the intake port by about 50%.
The flow rate of the intake air increases and ensures better distribution of the fuel air mixture in the combustion chamber.
The tumble flaps are located on two tumble flap shafts which are actuated by the tumble flap switchover vacuum unit via a linkage. The tumble flap switchover vacuum unit has vacuum applied to it from the vacuum reservoir or is ventilated via the intake manifold tumble flap switchover valve.
The swivel range of the tumble flaps between completely swiveled in or out is approx. 56°.
In a deenergized condition the tumble flap switchover vacuum unit is ventilated and the tumble flaps are opened by spring force.
In an energized condition the tumble flap switchover vacuum unit has vacuum applied to it whereby the tumble flaps in swivel into the intake ports.
Actuation takes place from the ME-SFI [ME] control unit (N3/10) if the following conditions are fulfilled:
^ Engine speed <3000 rpm
^ NO IDLING
^ Engine load less than <30%
^ Coolant temperature >60 °C
The manual end positions of the tumble flap shafts are monitored via the left intake pipe tumble flap position sensor (B28/9) and the right intake pipe tumble flap position sensor (B28/10) by the ME-SFI [ME] control unit.
For diagnosis, following engine start, the tumble flap switchover is actuated briefly to test the actuation and achievement of the end positions.
