Location
55 Fuel delivery module
M3 Fuel pump
The fuel pump is integrated in the fuel delivery module, which is located at the bottom in the right tank chamber.
Task
The fuel pump supplies the required quantity of fuel at the required pressure to the fuel injection system (fuel distributor rail).
Design
The fuel pump is a two stage flow pump with a maximum delivery rate of 130 l/h at 3.8 bar.
A fuel strainer (as fuel prefilter) and a suction jet pump (for removing fuel from the right fuel tank chamber) is attached below at the feed point to the fuel pump.
Function
The fuel pump us actuated and regulated via the fuel pump control unit (N118) by means of a PWM signal (pulse width modulated signal).
It suctions fuel through the fuel strainer out of the fuel feed module and via the suction jet pump out of the right fuel tank chamber. The fuel pump then pumps the suctioned fuel via the fuel filter and the fuel pressure regulator to the fuel distributor rail. In doing so the fuel pressure is limited by the pressure limiting valve to approx. 3.8 bar.
