AR26.40-P-2002-02CW Assemble transmission housing
- TRANSMISSION 716.6

Housing:

Gear set, shafts:

Complete manual transmission:

Special Tools:

Repair materials:

Component Identification:

1 Clean and degrease sealing surface.
2 Apply specified sealant to the sealing surface of the front section of the transmission housing.
3 Coat specified sealant on the sealing surface of the rear section of the transmission housing in the area of the vent cap.

Component Identification:

4 Insert main shifter shaft (20) if necessary.
Ensure that shift unit is in correct position (arrows).

Component Identification:

5 Oil the cylindrical roller bearings in the drive shaft.
6 Lift up the countershaft slightly from the front and insert rear section of transmission housing (6) with transmission shafts (7) in the front section of transmission housing.
Drive shaft and countershaft, main shifter shaft and guides of the shift unit must engage in the rear section of the transmission housing (6).

Component Identification:

7 Attach rear section of transmission of transmission housing (6) with two 60 mm long bolts (5) to the bores with guide sleeves and install rear section of transmission housing (6) finger-tight.

Component Identification:

8 Install bolt (4) and screw it in hand-tight.
9 Mount insertion tool (3) on drive shaft and turn nut (2) downwards completely.
10 Insert wedges (1).
11 Turn nut (2) upwards until the wedges (1) abut.

Component Identification:

12 Position retainer wrench (8) on nut.
13 Install countershaft with bolt and drive shaft using retainer wrench (8) alternately and uniformly until retainer wrench (8) also rotates when countershaft is drawn in.
Do not use any electric or impact wrench/driver or compressed air tool
14 Tighten nut using retainer wrench (8).
15 Using the retainer wrench (8) loosen the nut again and remove insertion tool.

Component Identification:

16 Remove 60 mm long bolts (arrows) and assemble rear section of transmission housing (6) with new bolts (5)[Nm].

Component Identification:

17 Install radial shaft sealing ring (11) using Drift.
Pay attention to correct seat of radial shaft sealing ring (11) in rear section of transmission housing (6).
18 Push on output flange (10).
19 Tighten new collar nut (9). When doing so, counterhold using socket screw wrench.
Use pin wrench (126 589 01 07 00) and socket (126 589 02 09 00).
20 Secure new collar nut (9) using drift.

Component Identification:

21 Tighten bolt (12) of countershaft
Counterhold using retainer wrench (13).

Component Identification:

22 Determine required thickness of retaining ring (15):
^ Insert test ring (thickness: 1.5 mm) and press downwards completely (towards output).
^ Determine distance between test ring and groove upper edge of drive shaft using feeler gauge.
^ Calculate required thickness of new retaining ring (15) (measured value + test ring thickness 1.5 mm).
^ Remove test ring.
23 Using suitable pliers, insert new retaining ring (15) with the determined thickness (graduation: 0.05 mm).
Make sure that the circlip (15) is seated correctly on the input shaft.
24 Install radial shaft sealing ring (16) using Drift
Make sure that the radial shaft sealing ring (16) is seated correctly in the transmission housing.
25 Fit a new sealing cover (14) on countershaft using drift.
Make sure that the sealing cover (14) is seated correctly in the transmission housing.
