Automatically controlled all-wheel drive (4MATIC), general
The automatically controlled all-wheel drive (4MATIC) is a permanent all-wheel drive with central differential.

A reduction in meshing and an optimized lubrication concept is realized by the integration of the transfer case in the automatic transmission.

The basic locking torque of 50 Nm serves to improve traction at low engine torque and prevent drive train vibrations.

The fixed drive torque distribution is 45 % at the front axle and 55 % at the rear axle.

The drive torque is distributed to the drive axles (drivetrain) via a single-speed transfer case without off-road ratio.
