The function description uses the term "master control unit".
General
With basic telephony, the mobile phone must be switched on or off manually via the buttons on the mobile phone. With comfort telephony, the mobile phone is switched on automatically via a wake-up pulse from the "master control unit" by switching on the "master control unit" or is switched off via a corresponding signal, if this has been set on the mobile phone.
Function sequence for switching on with comfort telephony
The switch-on signal from the "master control unit" is transmitted via a discrete line to the cradle. The mobile phone is then switched on and supplied with power. If set on the mobile phone, the Personal Identification Number (PIN) is requested after the mobile phone has been switched on. The PIN inquiry is displayed by the "master control unit" via a low voltage differential signaling (LVDS) line to the Audio/COMAND display (A40/8) as well as via the interior CAN to the instrument cluster (A1) (except Entry-Line).
Depending on the prompt, the 4 to 8-digit PIN must be entered in one of the following ways:
^ Telephone buttons on the "master control unit"
^ Voice control system (VCS [SBS]), with code (511) Audio 50 APS with DVD changer, with code (527) COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation) or with code (512) COMAND APS with DVD changer
The control signals from the telephone buttons of the "master control unit" are processed internally.
The control signals from the VCS [SBS], with code (511) Audio 50 APS with DVD changer, with code (527) COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation) or with code (512) COMAND APS with DVD changer, are acquired by the voice control system microphone (B25/7) and forwarded via a discrete line directly to the "master control unit".
Then the "master control unit" transmits the PIN entry to the Mobile Service Switching Center (MSC) in the following way:
^ Discrete line
^ Bluetooth antenna (A2/91)
^ Bluetooth antenna (integrated into the Bluetooth contact plate of the cradle)
^ Cradle
^ Discrete line and multifunction antenna (A28/11), with code (386) Mobile phone Discrete line, frequency switchover control unit (N96) (with code (359) TELE AID emergency call system) and multifunction antenna, with code (389) Mobile phone preinstallation with universal interface, USA/Canada (model 204.0)
After registering in the service provider's mobile telephone network, the name of the mobile telephone network is given on the mobile phone screen and on the Audio/COMAND display in vehicles with code (386) Mobile phone.
The mobile phone signals or data are received in the following way:
^ Discrete line and multifunction antenna, with code (386) Mobile phone
^ Discrete line, frequency switchover control unit (with code (359) TELE AID emergency call system) and multifunction antenna, with code (389) Mobile phone preinstallation with universal interface, USA/Canada (model 204.0)
^ Cradle
The display on the mobile phone's screen is forwarded internally. The display on the Audio/COMAND display is transmitted in the following way:
^ Bluetooth antenna (integrated into the Bluetooth contact plate of the cradle)
^ Bluetooth antenna
^ Discrete line
^ "Master control unit
^ LVDS line
For basic telephony, the switch-on signal is processed internally in the mobile phone. The PIN inquiry, if set on the mobile phone, is only displayed on the mobile phone's screen. The PIN is only entered via the buttons on the mobile phone. The PIN entry is transmitted to the MSC and the registration confirmation is provided via the mobile phone's antenna. The mobile phone network name is also displayed just on the mobile phone's screen. The display of the PIN, of the mobile phone network name and the signals of the buttons on the mobile phone are processed internally in the mobile phone.
Function sequence for switching off with comfort telephony The switch-off signal from the "master control unit" is transmitted via a discrete line to the cradle. The mobile phone is then switched off if this is set on the mobile phone and the power supply is interrupted.
For basic telephony, the switch-off signal is processed internally in the mobile phone. If the rechargeable battery of the mobile phone is empty, the mobile phone is also switched off. This process also runs internally in the mobile phone.
By switching off the mobile phone and then subsequently removing the SIM card, the mobile phone is taken out of operation. The SIM card may only be removed after the mobile phone has been deactivated in order to prevent permanent damage to the memory chip provided on the SIM card.
Supplemental information
The PIN serves to prevent any unauthorized use of the SIM card. The SIM card is locked after the PIN has been entered incorrectly 3 times. In vehicles with code (386) Mobile phone, the SIM card is enabled again by entering the personal 8-digit Personal Unblocking Key (PUK) using the buttons on the mobile phone for basic telephony and comfort telephony.
This allows entry of a new PIN number. If the PUK is entered incorrectly 10 times in succession, the SIM card can no longer be used and a new SIM card must be applied for from the service provider.
