GF30.30-P-0004LE DISTRONIC PLUS Including BAS Plus And Park Assist, Function
- with CODE (233) Distronic Plus
- as of model year 09
Component Identification:
Component Identification:
The systems described below belong to the driving assistance systems and are offered as special equipment (SA) under the designation DISTRONIC PLUS with code 233.
The previously used 77 GHz long range radar for DISTRONIC (code 219) has been extended by adding the 24 GHz short range radar to handle more extensive tasks.
This driver assistance system, which is controlled and coordinated by the radar sensors control unit (SGR) (N62/1), increases driving safety and offers the driver a significant comfort advantage. This helps to reduce the frequency of accidents and to minimize their consequences.
DISTRONIC PLUS includes the following functionality:
^ Variable Speed Limiter (except code (494) USA version)
^ Permanent Speed Limiter
^ Automatic shutoff of the radar sensor system (for the Western European version)
^ DISTRONIC PLUS (DTR PLUS)
^ Distance warning system (AWS)
^ BAS PLUS (Brake Assist System PLUS)
^ PRE-SAFE brake
^ Park Assist (except model 221 as of AEJ 09 model refinement package)
^ Parking Guidance (except model 221 as of AEJ 09 model refinement package)
^ Blind Spot Assist (for code (234) Blind Spot Assist)
Variable Speed Limiter (except code (494) USA version)
The Variable Speed Limiter enables the driver to set an individual maximum speed in the range of 30 km/h up to the maximum speed.
Permanent Speed Limiter
The Permanent Speed Limiter allows the driver to set (limit) the maximum speed of the vehicle (e.g. for winter tires with a lower permissible maximum speed).
Automatic shutoff of the radar sensor system (for the Western European version)
Due to legal requirements on the 24 GHz radar system (short range radar), the radar sensor system is automatically switched off in certain protected areas around radio astronomy stations.
DISTRONIC PLUS (DTR PLUS)
DISTRONIC PLUS uses radar sensors to keep the vehicle at a specified target distance from the preceding vehicle (the target distance is set by the driver) and provides visual and acoustic warnings to the driver before dangerous situations arise.
The electronic system automatically activates the brakes when the distance to the preceding vehicle decreases, and accelerates automatically back to the stored target speed as soon as the traffic situation allows.
Distance warning system (AWS)
The distance warning system is an additional function of DISTRONIC PLUS. It warns the driver in the speed range of 30 to 250 km/h of moving or stationary obstacles in his lane
The driver can activate or deactivate the distance warning system separately via a menu in the instrument cluster (A1) independently of the DISTRONIC PLUS distance control.
BAS PLUS (Brake Assist System PLUS)
BAS PLUS is an additional function of the Brake Assist System (BAS), which assists the driver by means of specific calculations of the brake force. The current danger zone and the closing speed are constantly monitored. If the driver is forced to brake suddenly due to traffic, BAS PLUS ensures a quick build-up of the brake pressure calculated for the situation in hand.
PRE-SAFE brake
The PRE-SAFE brake (also known as the Collision Mitigation System (CMS)) is an additional function of DISTRONIC PLUS which supports the safety concept PRE-SAFE
The PRE-SAFE brake permanently determines the potential danger of a collision occurring and initiates appropriate measures to warn of an impending collision and possibly to mitigate the effects of a collision in critical situations.
Park Assist (except model 221 as of AEJ 09 model refinement package)
The Park Assist helps the driver when parking and unparking with visual distance displays in the instrument cluster and on the rear headliner. Furthermore, distance warning signals alert the driver to impending collisions.
Parking Guidance (except model 221 as of AEJ 09 model refinement package)
The Parking Guidance assists the driver to find an adequately large long parking gap and to park in this in an optimal manner. The driver is himself responsible for estimating (plausibility) the parking gap found as well as for maneuvering of the vehicle longitudinally and laterally.
Blind Spot Assist (for code (234) Blind Spot Assist)
The Blind Spot Assist supports the driver for safe execution of a lane change. In the process the Blind Spot Assistant supplies important information about the events in the rear and side area of the vehicle where the inside rearview mirror and the two outside mirrors do not offer adequate visibility (blind spots).
