AR54.10-P-0006P Treatment of Battery if Vehicle Taken Out of Service


DANGER:
- Risk of explosion from explosive gas. Risk of poisoning and caustic burns from swallowing battery electrolyte. Risk of injury through burns to skin and eyes from battery acid or when handling damaged lead-acid batteries
- No fire, sparks, naked flames or smoking.
- Wear protective gloves, acid-resistant clothing and safety glasses. Pour battery electrolyte only into suitable and appropriately marked containers.


1 Remove dust filter housing for heating/ventilation
2 Check battery

NOTE: Determine findings, if necessary charge battery

3 Disconnect ground cable of battery

NOTE: Discharge of battery by quiescent current consumers (clock etc.) is prevented

4 Charge battery

NOTE: Every 4 weeks.

- Never leave the battery flat otherwise the plates will sulfate. Sulfated plates damage the battery and result in premature failure.

5 Install in the reverse order
