Switch-on characteristics
The Universal Portable CTEL Interface (UPCI) system is activated after one of the following actions:
^ Actuation of the ON/OFF button on the portable CTEL (A34/6)
^ Automatically by means of a wake-up pulse over the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST), which is initiated by the respective audio device (e.g. radio (A2) (standard equipment))
^ Activation of "circuit 15R ON" status
Before the Universal Portable CTEL Interface system can be started up, it must be logged into the respective telephone network. The Subscriber Identification Module (SIM) on the SIM card is needed to do this.
After inserting and activating the SIM card the user must enter the 4 to 8-digit Personal Identification Number (PIN) when requested to do so.
This PIN serves to prevent any unauthorized use of the SIM card. The SIM card is locked after 3 incorrect entries. The Personal Unblocking Key (PUK), an 8-digit number code, can be used to deactivate the access block. This allows entry of a new PIN number. If the PUK is entered wrongly 10 times in succession, the SIM card can no longer be used and a new SIM card must be applied for from the service provider.
If the PIN is entered correctly, the portable CTEL (A34/6) logs into the service provider's network and is ready for use.
Switch-off characteristics
The UPCI system is deactivated by one of the following actions:
^ Actuation of the ON/OFF button on the portable CTEL (A34/6)
^ Automatically after the individually set table run-on time on the portable CTEL (A34/6)
^ After removing the transmitter key (A8/1) and following expiration of the run-on time individually adjustable on the portable CTEL (A34/6)
Decommissioning
The portable CTEL (A34/6) is decommissioned by pressing the ON/OFF button on the portable CTEL (A34/6) and removing the SIM card.
The SIM card must only be removed if the portable CTEL (A34/6) has been switched off in order to protect the SIM on the SIM card from destruction. When the portable CTEL (A34/6) is switched on again, the PIN has to be reentered.
