GF82.60-P-2000TXJ Audio Functions
- with CODE (498) Japan version
- Radio mode, MD and CD mode

Radio mode, function
After pressing the "Radio mode" function in the "Audio" menu by pressing the "FM" or "AM" button on the COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3), the antennas in the rear window receive high frequency signals for ultra-short wave (FM and medium wave (MW). The music, voice and data signals are superimposed on these radio frequency signals. The left antenna amplifier module (A2/64) filters the frequencies of the radio frequency bands out of the high-frequency signals received and amplifies them. The amplified signals are then sent via a coaxial cable to the radio tuner, which is integrated in the audio gateway control unit (N93/1). The radio tuner separates the useful information (audible frequencies) from the carrier signal (inaudible frequencies).

The demodulated audio signals are amplified and output on the vehicle speakers.
A Vehicle Information and Communication System (VICS) output is integrated in right antenna amplifier module (A2/65), via which the traffic information for the optional external VICS 3-media box is relayed to the internal FM multiplexer of the COMAND operating, display and controller unit for processing.

Antenna diversity, function
In the case of the "antenna diversity" function, reception-dependent switching over is carried out between the FM antennas of the rear window. The function runs automatically and is carried out by the left antenna amplifier module.

The radio tuner in the audio gateway control unit merely generates the intermediate frequency (IF) signal, which in turn serves as a reference for changing the FM antenna.
The radio components in the audio gateway control unit also offers:
^ A station list of the currently most powerful FM stations
^ An automatic memory for the strongest AM stations
^ Program type selection (e.g. pop, culture, etc.) for FM stations

Station selection options are:
^ automatic station search with scan function (the stations of one waveband are played for 8 s)
^ Station search on multifunction steering wheel (MFL)
^ Manual station search
^ Station selection using list of stations
^ station selection from the memory (10 stations per waveband)
^ Station selection using numeric keyboard
^ Station selection by entering the frequency (e.g. 92.2 MHz)

CD mode function
The COMAND operating, display and controller unit is equipped with an integrated Digital Versatile Disk (DVD) ROM drive for loading navigation data and playing video DVDs and audio CDs.

CD changer mode
The CD changer (A2/6) is controlled by the COMAND operating, display and controller unit. The control signals and the audio data from the CD changer are transmitted by the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST), whereby the audio data are relayed to the audio gateway control unit.

Only audio CDs can be used as media in the CD changer and they must have the appropriate file format.

The COMAND operating, display and controller unit in combination with the CD changer provides the following function
^ "Scan" function
Either the tracks on a CD are played or the 1st track of each CD in the entire magazine is played for 8 seconds. After this has been run through completely, the scan function is automatically terminated.
^ "Random" function
All the titles on a CD or the entire CD magazine are played in accordance with the random principle.
^ "Repeat" function
Alternatively a title, a CD or the entire CD magazine is repeated.
^ Fast forward and rewind (music search)
The music played is audible during fast forward and reverse. This enables certain sections of a track to be played or skipped.

CD title allocation, function
Each CD includes a permanently stored table of contents (TOC record). As a result, the COMAND operating, display and controller unit can clearly identify the relevant CD and is able to automatically name it after one-off allocation of the title by the user (even if the CD is subsequently inserted into a different CD magazine).
The table of contents (TOC record) also contains information on the number of titles on a CD and the total CD playing time.

Minidisc (MD) mode function
A drive is also integrated behind the display of the COMAND operating, display and controller unit, which can be used to play Minidiscs (MD). The drive is operated directly via the COMAND operating, display and controller unit, and the audio signals are relayed to the audio gateway control unit via the MOST.
