Component Identification:

AIRmatic driver information
For AIRmatic and adaptive damping system (ADS) various messages are indicated in the multifunction display (A1p13), in the instrument cluster (A1), in the comfort and sport switch (N72s25) and the level adjustment switch (N72s18).

Turning on the ignition and starting the engine
When the ignition is switched on, the LED's in the comfort and sport switch and level adjustment switch light up and display the setting selected before "Ignition OFF" when the engine is running.

Display evaluation
If electrical faults occur in the AIRmatic or ADS system the message "Visit workshop!" appears on the multifunction display in the instrument cluster. The fault is stored in the AIRmatic with ADS control unit (N51) and can be read out using STAR DIAGNOSIS.

If the vehicle level is more than 50 mm below the normal level on the front axle or more than 60 mm on the rear axle. the message "Stop, car too low!" appears on the multifunction display in the instrument cluster. The display goes out again when the level has risen again to 48 mm or 58 mm below the normal level.

Emergency running
A malfunction in the adaptive damping system leads to the ADS being switched off. The damping is set to the hardest level. If a fault occurs in the suspension system or level control system, the system attempts to maintain the set vehicle level. Manual and automatic level control are no longer possible.

Comfort and sport switch
3 shock absorber maps can be selected with the comfort and sport switch; in addition, the vehicle level is lowered 10 mm in the "Sport I" position and 15 mm in the "Sport II" position A red indicator lamp (LED) lights up in the switch in switch position "Sport I". Both indicator lamps (LEDs) light up in switch position "Sport II".

Level adjustment switch
The level adjustment switch allows the driver to raise the vehicle level by 25 mm ((USA) 20 mm). The switch position raised level is indicated by the red indicator lamp (LED) in the comfort and sport switch. The red indicator lamp (LED) flashes in the comfort and sport switch during adjustment. In addition, the message "Vehicle rising" appears on the multifunction display in the instrument cluster

As long as the message: "Vehicle rising" is indicated on the multifunction display in the instrument cluster, the desired vehicle level has not yet been reached

If raising the vehicle speed-dependent is canceled, the message "Level selection canceled" appears in the instrument cluster for t = 10 seconds".

If the vehicle is raised several times in succession, the air compressor motor (A9/1m1) may switch off at times to prevent an overload. It may then take an unusually long time to raise the vehicle level.
