GF82.85-P-2012TJA Navigation Mode, Function
- with CODE (527) COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation)
- with CODE (498) Japan version
General information
The navigation mode is an assistant function which supports the driver in reaching his/her destination without diverting his/her attention from traffic. This is done by:
- Route planning, route calculation and destination-oriented navigation
- Visual driving instructions in form of illustrations
- Intersection zoo
- Acoustic driving recommendations
- Display of navigation maps
The location of the vehicle and the direction and distance to the destination are determined with the aid of the navigation system. The navigation system consists of several subfunctions:
^ General navigation mode function sequence
^ Position finding and destination-oriented navigation
^ Route guidance through voice output
The subfunctions "Position finding and navigation", "Route guidance via voice output" and "Display compass" are described in separate documents.
Operating instructions
The navigation system can be operated using the following components:
- Control buttons on the COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3)
- Voice control over voice control system (VCS)
Function requirements
^ "Circuit 15 ON" status
^ COMAND operating, display and controller unit activated via "ON" button
^ "Navi" menu selected
^ No fault on global positioning system (GPS) antenna system
General navigation mode function sequence
The data entered for reaching the destination (destination-oriented navigation) is calculated by the navigation processor integrated into the COMAND operating, display and controller unit. The route is then calculated taking the configured options into consideration. 5 routes are calculated and then displayed:
- Recommended route
- Route with widest possible roads
- Route without toll roads
- Shortest route
- Alternative route
The user can decide in favor of one of the routes and start the destination-oriented navigation. If the vehicle is no longer moving on the pre-calculated route, then the route is recalculated. If the recalculated values are plausible for the navigation system, then the modified route is displayed.
When entered directly, using the control buttons on the COMAND operating, display and controller unit, the control signals are processed within the COMAND operating, display and controller unit.
Voice input takes place via the VCS [SBS] microphone (B25/7). The words that are spoken are converted into an electrical signal by the VCS [SBS] microphone and routed to the COMAND operating, display and controller unit via a direct line.
