Side-impact
If a side impact is detected by the driver sidebag and windowbag sensor (A53/1) or front passenger sidebag and windowbag sensor (A54/1), the corresponding acceleration data are sent to the restraint systems control unit (N2/7). When the triggering threshold is exceeded, the restraint systems control unit sends a triggering pulse to the corresponding restraint systems.
Driver side
The following squibs are ignited in the event of a side impact:
^ driver sidebag squib (R12/9)
^ Left front windowbag squib (R12/16)
^ Left rear sidebag squib (R12/11) (with code (293) Left and right rear sidebag)
If the driver is not belted, this is recognized by the restraint systems control unit via the driver seat belt buckle restraint systems switch (S68/3). In this case, the squibs are ignited with earlier ignition times.
Passenger side
The squibs of the restraint system are ignited depending upon the occupation status of the front passenger seat.
The following possibilities exist here:
No front passenger and no child seat recognized:
^ right front windowbag squib (R12/17)
^ right rear sidebag squib (R12/12) (with code (293) Left and right rear sidebag)
Front passenger or child seat recognized:
^ front passenger sidebag squib (R12/10)
^ right front windowbag squib (R12/17)
^ right rear sidebag squib (R12/12) (with code (293) Left and right rear sidebag)
If the front passenger is not belted, this is recognized by the restraint systems control unit via the front passenger seat belt buckle restraint systems switch (S68/4). In this case, the squibs are ignited with earlier ignition times.
For (United States Of America) in the event of a collision and if the corresponding triggering threshold is exceeded, the restraint systems control unit additionally sends a signal to the emergency call system control unit (N123/4), and an automatic emergency call is transmitted.
