AR68.10-P-1020T Remove/Install Top Section of Instrument Panel












1 Remove instrument cluster
2 Remove paneling from left A-pillar
3 Remove left trim strip from the instrument panel
4 Remove paneling on right A-pillar
5 Remove right trim strip on instrument panel
6 Remove front control and operating module
7 Remove loudspeaker in instrument panel
8 Unscrew screws (2)

DANGER:
- Risk of fire and explosion when machining magnesium components
- Keep away from source of ignition and naked flame.


9 Unscrew screws (3)

NOTE: The cross member below the instrument panel, into which the screws (3) are screwed, consists of magnesium alloy.

10 Lift top section of instrument panel (1) and separate the electrical connectors (4) at the air nozzles (5)
11 Remove top section of instrument panel (1) with the help of a second person on the right side toward rear from the cross member below the instrument panel

CAUTION: Lead top section of instrument panel (1) carefully past right A-pillar. Otherwise there is risk of cracks and fracture of the electrical connector at the right front window airbag ignition squib (R12/17).

NOTE:
On vehicles with code (220a) Parktronic system (PTS), only remove as far as necessary until the electrical connector (arrow) at the PTS warning display, center of instrument panel (A44/4), is accessible.

12 Disconnect electrical connector (arrow) from the PTS warning display, center of instrument panel (A44/4)

NOTE: While separating the electrical connector (arrow) the top section of the instrument panel (1) must be held with the help of a second person.

13 Remove top section of instrument panel (1) with the help of a second person on the left side toward rear from cross member below the instrument panel and take out of vehicle.

CAUTION: Lead top section of instrument panel (1) carefully past left A-pillar.Otherwise there is risk of cracks and fracture of the electrical connector at the left front window airbag ignition squib (R12/16).

14 Install in the reverse order.
