Adjust Parking Brake







Inspecting

DANGER:
- Lethal injuries are possible if vehicle slips off of lifting platform
- Align vehicle between the columns of the hydraulic hoist and position the four support plates below the hoist support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.


CAUTION: See notes on repairs to brake system

1 Check version of pedal assembly


2 Press parking brake pedal and check pedal travel of parking brake pedal

NOTE:
- If the pedal travel is not within the tolerance range then adjust parking brake.
- Actuation force at parking brake pedal
- Number of notches that parking brake pedal has to be pressed

Remove
3 Unscrew one wheel bolt at the left and right rear wheels

CAUTION: Light alloy wheels must be removed due to a risk of damage.

4 Pre-tension automatic cable slack adjuster

Adjusting
5 Turn adjusting wheel (c) with a screwdriver until the brake shoes (103) are touching the parking brake drum and it is no longer possible to turn the rear wheel or the brake disk (61) by hand

NOTE: Actuation direction for applying the brake shoes: turn left adjusting wheel (c) in direction of travel, turn right adjusting wheel (c) in opposite direction to direction of travel.

6 Turn back adjusting wheel (c) by 11 to 12 teeth

NOTE: Turn back the left and right adjusting wheel (c) by the same number of teeth. It must be possible to turn the rear road wheel or brake disk (61) completely freely by hand.

7 Relieve load on automatic slack adjuster.

Inspecting
8 Press parking brake pedal several times and check pedal travel of parking brake pedal, then loosen parking brake
- Actuation force at parking brake pedal
- Number of notches that parking brake pedal has to be pressed

9 Check rear road wheel or brake disks (61) for unobstructed movement

Install
10 Mount wheel bolts or light alloy wheels
