GF91.16-P-0003T NECK-PRO Head Restraints, Function

GF91.16-P-0003T NECK-PRO Head Restraints, Function
- as of 1.6.05

General
The driver and front passenger seats are equipped with NECK-PRO head restraints to reduce the severity of problematic neck injuries resulting from rear end collisions.

The integral impact plate in the NECK-PRO head restraint rapidly moves forwards by approximately 4 cm and upwards by approximately 3 cm in the event of a rear end collision.

The distance between the head and the head restraint is reduced, which significantly increases the protection potential that is provided in the neck area.

The NECK-PRO head restraint triggering device (N139) operates independently of the restraint systems control unit (N2/7) and does not have diagnostic capability.

The NECK-PRO head restraint triggering device is ready for triggering when circuit 15R is activated.

Function
The integral sensor in the NECK-PRO head restraint triggering device detects the vehicle acceleration in the event of a rear end collision, and if a certain acceleration is exceeded, it actuates the driver NECK-PRO head restraint solenoid (Y24/12) and the front passenger NECK-PRO head restraint solenoid (Y24/13) after a delay of 20 ms.

If the NECK-PRO head restraints have been triggered due to an accident, the NECK-PRO head restraints can be reset using a resetting tool.
