Function requirements
^ Status "Circuit 30 ON" or "Circuit 15R ON"
^ Mobile phone and COMAND controller unit (A40/3) are switched on
^ Mobile phone system operating error-free
^ One mobile phone network is available in sufficient strength and quality
^ Compatible mobile phone connected to the cell phone separation point (X39/37) or Bluetooth-compatible mobile phone in the vehicle authorized at the COMAND controller unit
^ The following provider settings have been completed:
- Connection name, dial-in number, telephone name
- DNS server 1 and 2, proxy server, port number, APN
- Time Limit, data communication, mail account
- Mail password, mail address, user, homepage
- Post Office Protocol 3 (POP3) server (for receiving emails)
- Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) server (for transmitting emails)
No more than 3 providers can be set.
To ensure that a mobile phone with Bluetooth capability that is also authorized at the COMAND controller unit can be used in the vehicle, the mobile phone must support handsfree profile (HFP) 1.0 or 1.5. More information is available under:

General
The email application enables the user to manage his/her emails (e.g. to read or compose).
The following email functions are available:
- Receive and read emails
- Compose and send emails
The email function consists of the following subfunctions:

Operating instructions
All operating takes place via the front central operating unit (A40/9). The display is generated via the COMAND controller unit and appears on the COMAND display (A40/8).
Receive and read emails
Incoming emails are received by the COMAND controller unit via the following route:
- Telephone and GPS antenna (A2/49) (model 216)
- Telephone and GPS roof antenna (A2/49) (model 221)
- Direct line
- Adapter cable
- Cell phone separation point
- Direct line
emails can now be read by running the email application in the "Telephone" menu item on the COMAND display. This takes place using the telephone/navigation quick select button (A40/9s5) on the front central operating unit.
The control signals from the telephone buttons of the center console button group (S148) are routed to the COMAND controller unit as follows:
- COU [ZBE] LIN
- Front central operating unit
- Telematics CAN
The menu item, the email application and the selected email are displayed on the COMAND display by the COMAND controller unit.
On a mobile phone that is not connected and operated via Bluetooth, the COMAND controller unit receives emails via the following route:
- Mobile phone antenna
- Bluetooth antenna (A2/91)
- Direct line
Compose and send emails
The email application in the "Telephone" menu item is selected using the telephone/navigation quick select button at the front central operating unit. The control signals from the telephone buttons of the center console button group are forwarded to the COMAND controller unit via the following route:
- COU [ZBE] LIN
- Front central operating unit
- Telematics CAN
The menu item, the email application and the created email are displayed on the COMAND display by the COMAND controller unit.
emails are then sent to the receiver by the COMAND controller unit via the following route:
- Direct line
- Cell phone separation point
- Direct line
- Telephone and GPS antenna (model 216)
- Telephone and GPS roof antenna (model 221)
On a mobile phone that is not connected and operated via Bluetooth, the COMAND controller unit transmits emails to the recipient via the following route:
- Direct line
- Bluetooth antenna
- Mobile phone antenna
