Complaint:

Cracking noise from the area of the instrument panel/firewall when cornering, during throttle lift-off and on uneven roads.





Attachments

Cause:

Stress at the spot welds on the firewall to the right of the brake booster can result in cracking noises. (See figure 1 in attachment)

Remedy:

1. Remove/install wiper arm AR82.30-P-6100SX

2. Remove water deflector over wiper system.

3. Unscrew bolt. (See Figure 2 in attachment)

4. Center punch the 6 resistance spot welds using a hammer and center punch. (See Figure 3 in attachment)

5. Prime center punched resistence spot welds and touch up in vehicle color.

6. Treat center punched and touched-up resistence spot welds with wax. (See Figure 4 in attachment)

7. Reassemble vehicle in the reverse order.
