GF82.85-P-2007RM Telephone Mode, Function

GF82.85-P-2007RM Telephone Mode, Function
- with CODE (388) Telephone "Handy", UPCI system
- with CODE (527) COMAND APS (with navigation)

The telephone system can be operated as follows:
^ directly at the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3)
^ via the multifunction steering wheel (MFL) in combination with the left multifunction display (A1p13) of the instrument cluster (A1)
^ With code (813) Voice control system (VCS [SBS]) via voice commands

The audio source is automatically muted during a telephone call. The following will describe the telephone operation in further detail. The telephone radio signals are transmitted and received by the telephone antenna (A2/22). The display of the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) shows the destination field strengths in 5 grades when the telephone is in its ready status.

All control signals and useful signals (e.g. sound signals with hands-free system activated) are transmitted via the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST). The portable CTEL (A34/6) requires an interface to the MOST to do this, which is implemented via the Universal Portable CTEL Interface (UPCI [UHI]) control unit (N123/1).
The COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) has the following telephone functions:
^ Automatic disabling of telephone card when the personal identification number is entered incorrectly 3 times.
^ A 911 emergency call can be made without any PIN number or when the telephone card is not inserted.
^ Direct dialing of the call number via the rotary switch or the figures keypad, display of the name of the person called (in the event that the entered number is known).
^ Writing and transmitting Short Message Service (SMS) messages
^ Speed-dialing; dialing of the first 10 memory locations by pressing one key only or dialing all other memory locations by entering the 3-digit memory location number
^ Selection from memory lists, sorted according to
- memory location numbers
- Names (alphabetic)
- List of previous 10 dialed numbers

^ Display of telephone number for incoming call (if number is transferred via radio), display of name of calling party (if the number is known).

Data safety, SMS buffer
When the power supply fails, the characters stored in the buffer are saved. However, it is possible for up to 4 characters to be lost. When switched off in a controlled manner, no characters are lost. Creating and processing an SMS is possible only when SMS messages are present in the buffer. Characters are entered with the predictive text input (speller) or via the keypad on the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) (analogous to the portable CTEL).

These functions are also used for sending SMS messages; a recipient can be entered or selected from the telephone book.

Switching back on controlled and uncontrolled
After switching back on, the basic telephone display appears. By selecting menu point "SMS" the main SMS menu can be displayed. The editing process can be continued with the predictive text input (speller) after selecting "process SMS" in the SMS main menu.

The notebook of the telephone is always available.

Phone variants
The COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) offers the following options for telephone operation:
^ With code (388) "Portable CTEL" for UPCI system (with Universal Portable CTEL Interface (UPCI [UHI]) control unit (N123/1), UPCI [UHI] portable CTEL holder (Universal Portable CTEL Interface) (A34/15) and portable CTEL (A34/6))
^ With code (386) Preinstallation for "portable CTEL" for UPCI system (with Universal Portable CTEL Interface (UPCI [UHI]) control unit (N123/1))

The portable CTEL (A34/6) physically connects the cellular phone to the MOST bus and implements the protocol in accordance with the specification.
