GF82.20-P-2100RI Symbol And Ambiance Illumination, Function

Symbol and ambiance illumination, general
The symbol and ambiance illumination feature provides the brightness-adjustable illumination of all controls as well as the illumination of the vehicle interior.

The symbol and ambiance illumination feature comprises the following subfunctions:
^ Function sequence for symbol illumination
^ Function sequence for ambiance illumination

Additional symbol illumination function requirements
^ Standing lamp on, circuit 58d ON

Function sequence for symbol illumination
The following signals are read in and evaluated by the instrument cluster (A1) for controlling the symbol illumination:
- Status of standing lights actuation from driver-side SAM control unit (N10/10) via the interior CAN
- Status of instrument illumination brightness control and reset knob (A1r1) (symbol illumination setting from 0 to 100 %)

The instrument cluster generates the circuit 58b signal from the incoming information.

In order to actuate the symbol illumination, the instrument cluster transmits the circuit 58d signal to the following components via the interior CAN:
- COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3)
- Driver-side SAM control unit
- Rear SAM control unit (N10/8)
- AAC [KLA] control and operating unit (N22)
- Left front seat adjustment control unit with memory (N32/1)
- Right front seat adjustment control unit with memory (N32/2)
- RVC control unit (N52)
- Left door control unit (N69/1)
- Right door control unit (N69/2)
- Overhead control panel control unit (N70)
- Lower control panel control unit (N72)
- Steering column tube module (N80)

The driver-side SAM control unit actuates the illumination in the following components:
- Rotary light switch (S1)
- Illumination (R3e1) of the cigar lighter with ashtray illumination (R3)
- SOS push button (S93/3)
(with code (494) USA version)
- MB-Info and breakdown assistance button group (S93/6)
(with code (494) USA version)

The rear SAM control unit actuates the illumination in the following component:
- Shift gate illumination (E12) via the selector lever position sensor (B78) (with code (494) USA version or with code (625) Australia version)

The AAC [KLA] control and operating unit actuates the illumination in the following component:
- AAC center and side vent control system (N18/2)

The left front seat adjustment control unit with memory actuates the illumination in the following component:
- Left rear compartment access switch (S137)

The right front seat adjustment control unit with memory actuates the illumination in the following component:
- Right rear compartment access switch (S137/1)

The roll bar Vario roof control unit actuates the illumination in the following component:
- Load assist switch (S114)

The left door control unit actuates the illumination in the following components:
- Remote trunk opening switch (S15)
(without code (881) Remote trunk closing (RTC))
- Trunk lid open/close switch, driver (S15/3)
(with code (881) Remote trunk closing (RTC))
- Driver power window switch group (S20/1)
- Left ESA switch group (S91/2)

The right door control unit actuates the illumination in the following components:
- Front passenger power window switch (S21/2)
- Right seat adjustment switch group (S92/2)

The lower control panel control unit actuates the illumination in the following component:
- Hazard warning flasher and central locking switch group (S6/5)

The steering column tube module actuates the illumination in the following components:
- Left multifunction steering wheel button group (S110)
- Right multifunction steering wheel button group (S111)

The symbol illumination of the switches on the overhead control panel control unit is switched on when one of vehicle doors is opened, even without receiving the circuit 58d signal with a brightness value that corresponds to 100 %. If the status of the vehicle doors subsequently does not change, the symbol illumination is switched off after t = 30 s.
The opening or closing of a vehicle door during the time interval triggers a restart.
The symbol illumination is switched off immediately when the vehicle is locked.

Actuation of the symbol illumination in accordance with the status of the rain/light sensor (B38/2) only takes place with circuit 15R On. If circuit 15 is off, the symbol illumination is actuated in accordance with the daytime value.

Additional ambiance illumination function requirements
^ Circuit 15 On
^ Rain/light sensor signals darkness
^ Circuit 58d

Function sequence for ambiance illumination
The ambiance illumination includes the illumination of the footwells, the inside door handles and the instrument panel. The brightness can be adjusted via the instrument cluster.

The following signals are read in and evaluated by the overhead control panel control unit for controlling the ambiance illumination:
- Rain/light sensor, status
- Circuit 15 terminal status or status of central locking (CL [ZV]) by EIS [EZS] control unit (N73) via the interior CAN
- Instrument cluster ambience illumination brightness status via the interior CAN

The overhead control panel control unit transmits the request for switching on the:
- footwell illumination to the front passenger side SAM control unit (N10/11) via the interior CAN
- door handle illumination to the left door control unit and the right door control unit via the interior CAN and actuates the following component itself:
- ambient lamp (A67e3) in the inside rearview mirror unit (A67)

The front passenger-side SAM control unit actuates the following footwell illumination components:
- Right footwell lamp (E17/15)
- Left footwell lamp (E17/16)

The left door control unit actuates the following door handle illumination component:
- Left door inside handle illumination (E17/11)

The right door control unit actuates the following door handle illumination component:
- Right door inside handle illumination (E17/12)

When unlocking the vehicle using the central locking, the ambiance illumination components are switched on at the brightness value that has been set via the instrument cluster.

The opening of a vehicle door triggers the actuation of the ambiance illumination at a brightness value corresponding to 100 %.

After closing the vehicle door, the components are actuated again at the previously set brightness value.
