GF82.20-P-2200RI Automatic Interior Lights Control, Function
Automatic interior lights control, general
The automatic interior lights control implements the actuation of all interior illumination components and the warning and exit illumination.
The corresponding requests are generated automatically. The master control unit of the automatic interior lights control is the overhead control panel control unit (N70).
The automatic interior lights control feature comprises the following subfunctions:
^ Locator lighting function sequence
^ Function sequence for warning and exit illumination
^ Function sequence for load compartment illumination
^ Interior illumination function sequence with anti-theft alarm system (ATA [EDW]) alarm
^ Function sequence for interior illumination following an accident with airbag deployment
Additional function requirements for locator lighting
^ Door contact ON and OFF switch (N70s3) in automatic interior lights position
^ Rain/light sensor (B38/2) reports darkness
^ Locking the vehicle via the central locking (CL [ZV])
^ Intentionally leaving the vehicle by removing the transmitter key (A8/1) from the EIS [EZS] control unit (N73)
Locator lighting function sequence
The following signals are read in and evaluated by the overhead control panel control unit for controlling the locator lighting:
- Door contact ON and OFF switch status
- Rain/light sensor, status
- Status of central locking (CL [ZV]) and circuit 15 status from EIS [EZS] control unit via the interior CAN
The overhead control panel control unit actuates the following interior illumination component:
- front dome lamp (N70e1)
If the function is requested by unlocking the central locking, the interior illumination is switched off after t = 30 s or immediately, if the vehicle is locked again within t = 3 s of unlocking it.
If the function is requested by intentionally leaving the vehicle, the interior illumination is switched off in accordance with the OFF delay time that has been set via the instrument cluster (A1). The duration of the OFF delay time is adjustable and is supplied to the overhead control panel control unit via the interior CAN.
The overhead control panel control unit transmits the request to switch on the footwell illumination to the front passenger-side SAM control unit (N10/11) via the interior CAN.
The front passenger-side SAM control unit actuates the following footwell illumination components with the set brightness value for the symbol illumination:
- Right footwell lamp (E17/15)
- Left footwell lamp (E17/16)
Additional function requirement for warning and exit illumination
^ Opening a vehicle door
Function sequence for warning and exit illumination
The following signals are read in and evaluated by the overhead control panel control unit for controlling the warning and exit illumination:
- The left door contact switch status (S17/3) and the right door contact switch status (S17/4) from the rear SAM control unit (N10/8) via the interior CAN
The overhead control panel control unit transmits the request to switch on the warning and exit illumination to the following control units via the interior CAN:
- Left door control unit (N69/1)
- Right door control unit (N69/2)
The following components of the warning and exit illumination are actuated in accordance with the door status:
- The left door entrance/exit lamp (E17/3) by the left door control unit
- The right door entrance/exit lamp (E17/4) by the right door control unit
The overhead control panel control unit also actuates the following interior illumination component:
- Front dome lamp
The front passenger-side SAM control unit actuates the footwell lamps with a brightness value that corresponds to 100 %. If all the vehicle doors have been closed again and circuit status circuit 15 On has been supplied by the EIS [EZS] control unit on the interior CAN, the interior illumination is switched off.
The footwell lamps are then actuated again at the set brightness value for the symbol illumination.
To preserve the on-board electrical system battery (G1), with a circuit status of circuit 15 Off all activated lights are switched off after t = 5 min when a vehicle door is opened, or t = 8 s after the closing of the last vehicle door.
Additional load compartment illumination function requirements
^ Vehicle stationary
^ Trunk lid opened
Function sequence for load compartment illumination
The status of the locking pawl rotary tumbler switch (S88/4) is read in and evaluated by the rear SAM control unit in order to control the load compartment illumination. The rear SAM control unit actuates the trunk lamp (E18/1) in accordance with this status.
To preserve the on-board electrical system battery, the power supply to the trunk lamp is interrupted t = 30 min after the trunk lid has been opened.
Additional function requirements for interior illumination with ATA [EDW] alarm
^ ATA [EDW] alarm activated
Function sequence for interior illumination with ATA [EDW] alarm
The rear SAM control unit transmits the "ATA [EDW] alarm triggered" signal to the overhead control panel control unit via the interior CAN.
The overhead control panel control unit transmits the request to switch on the footwell illumination to the front passenger-side SAM control unit via the interior CAN, and actuates the following interior compartment illumination components:
- Left reading lamp (A67e1)
- Right reading lamp (A67e2)
- Front dome lamp
The front passenger-side SAM control unit actuates the footwell illumination.
Additional function requirements for interior illumination following an accident with airbag deployment
^ Airbag triggering by the restraint systems control unit (N2/7)
^ Vehicle stationary
Function sequence for interior illumination following an accident with airbag deployment
The interior illumination is actuated in order to provide better orientation for the occupants and the first aiders following an accident.
The "Crash event" information is placed on the interior CAN by the restraint systems control unit. The overhead control panel control unit receives this information, transmits the request to switch on the footwell illumination to the front passenger-side SAM control unit via the interior CAN, and actuates the following interior compartment illumination component:
- Front dome lamp
The front passenger-side SAM control unit actuates the footwell illumination.
The interior illumination function following an accident with airbag deployment is deactivated under the following conditions:
- Hazard warning system switch (S6/5s1) actuated
- Unlocking the CL [ZV]
- Change in circuit status from circuit 15R to circuit 15 On
- Opening a vehicle door
