Component Identification:






Location
One xenon headlamp control unit each is located on the underside of the left front lamp unit and on the underside of the right front lamp unit.

Task
The xenon headlamp control units operate in a master-slave combination and communicate with each other over the diagnostic CAN. As master the xenon headlamp control unit at the left front lamp unit synchronizes the xenon headlamp control unit at the right front lamp unit. The xenon headlamp control units have the following tasks:
^ Reading in of sensors, pickups and signals
^ Evaluation of input factors
^ Control of functions
^ Actuation of components

Reading in of sensors, pickups and signals

The input factors are read in via the following connections:
^ Direct line
^ Diagnostic CAN

Direct line
On vehicles without code (487) Active Body Control (ABC) the signals from the following sensors are read in by the xenon headlamp control unit at the left front lamp unit via a direct line:
- Left rear level sensor (B22/7)
- Left front level sensor (B22/8)

Diagnostic CAN
On vehicles with code (487) Active Body Control (ABC) the signals from the following sensors are read in by the ABC control unit (N51/2), made available on the engine compartment CAN and forwarded by the central gateway control unit (N93) to the diagnostic CAN:
- Left rear level sensor
- Left front level sensor
- Right front level sensor (B22/9)
- Right rear level sensor (B22/10)

Evaluation of input factors
The input factors are evaluated by the microprocessor and the corresponding components are actuated.

Control of functions
The following functions are realized by actuating the appropriate components:
- Low beams
- High beams
- Automatic headlamp range adjustment (HRA [LWR])
- Turning lamps
- Dynamic curve illumination (for code (621) Intelligent Light System (left-hand traffic) or code (622) Intelligent Light System (right-hand traffic))
- Active light distribution (for code (621) Intelligent Light System (left-hand traffic) or code (622) Intelligent Light System (righthand traffic))

Actuation of components

Components are actuated with the following line:
^ Direct line

Direct line
The following components are actuated by the xenon headlamp control unit at the left front lamp unit via a direct line:
- Left bixenon light with integrated ignition module (E1e10)
- Left high beam solenoid (E1l1)
- Left headlamp range adjustment motor (E1m1)
- Left dynamic curve illumination motor (E1m2) (for code (621) Intelligent Light System (left-hand traffic) or code (622) Intelligent Light System (right-hand traffic))

The following components are actuated by the xenon headlamp control unit at the right front lamp unit via a direct line:
- Bixenon light with integrated ignition module (E2e10)
- Right high beam solenoid (E2l1)
- Right headlamp range adjustment motor (E2m1)
- Right dynamic curve illumination motor (E2m2) (for code (621) Intelligent Light System (left-hand traffic) or code (622) Intelligent Light System (right-hand traffic))
