Camshaft Position Sensor: Description and Operation
GF07.04-P-6020MOR Component Description For Camshaft Hall Sensor
- refinement package
- as of model year 09
Component Identification:
Location
The camshaft Hall sensor is located at the left rear and right rear of the cylinder head.
Task
The camshaft Hall sensor detects the camshaft position contactlessly for the following functions:
- Synchronization of the ignition and injection sequence (detection of ignition TDC).
- Emergency start if crankshaft position sensor defective (L5)
Design
It consists of a Hall sensor cast into a plastic housing with a 3-pin plug connection.
Function
The camshaft position is detected from one of the segments of the camshaft.
A signal is generated for revolution of a camshaft. To do this, the signal is switched between about 5 V (high) and about 0 Volt (low). When the segment on the camshaft is opposite the camshaft Hall sensor, the signal is about 0 V.
