Crankshaft Position Sensor: Description and Operation
GF07.04-P-6010MOR Component Description For Crankshaft Position Sensor
- refinement package
- as of model year 09
Component Identification:
Location
The crankshaft position sensor is located at the top rear of the cylinder crankcase.
Task
The crankshaft position sensor detects the crankshaft position and engine speed.
Function
The front edge of a tooth generates a positive voltage pulse and the rear edge a negative voltage pulse.
The distance from the positive to the negative voltage peak corresponds to the length of a tooth.
At the gap consisting of 2 missing teeth, no voltage is generated in the crankshaft position sensor. This gap is used to detect the TDC position in cylinders 1 and 6.
