General function requirements
^ No Hall sensor fault present

Adjust/save steering column, general
The longitudinal and height adjustment of the steering column permits the individual adaptation of the steering wheel position to the driver.

The store/adjust steering column function is comprised of the following subfunctions:
^ Adjust steering column function sequence

In addition with code (241) memory switch for left electrically adjustable front seat
^ Save position of steering column function sequence
^ Call up saved steering column position function sequence

Adjust steering column function sequence
The adjustment of the steering column is requested by operating the steering column adjustment up/down and in/out switch (S59/1s1) in the steering column adjustment/steering wheel heater switch (S59/1). The steering column tube module (N80) reads in the status of the steering column adjustment switch and transmits the request via the interior CAN to the driver-side front seat adjustment control unit with memory (N32/1).

Depending on the request the front seat adjustment control unit actuates the steering column in/out motor (M20m1) or the steering column up/down motor (M20m2). Actuation take place for as long as the steering column adjustment switch remains pressed or until a steering column limit stop is reached.

Save position of steering column function sequence
The current position of the steering column can be saved together with the position of the driver seat and the outside mirror.

Storage takes place by operating the memory switch (S91/2s6, S91/2s7 or S91/2s8) or by operating the memory switch (S91/22s9) in the left seat adjustment switch group (S91/2). The corresponding positions are stored in the front seat adjustment control unit. Up to three different data records can be stored.

Storage can differ as follows:
- Operate and hold memory switch, then press the corresponding memory switches.
- Operate and release memory switch for t > 100 ms, then press the corresponding memory switches within t > 0.2 s to t < 3 s.

Operating the seat adjustment switch group is read in by the left door control unit (N69/1) and passed on to the front seat adjustment control unit via the interior CAN.

The front seat adjustment control unit stores the current position of the longitudinal motor and height adjustment motor by means of signals from the Hall sensors integrated in the motors.

When saving the position the instrument cluster (A1) emits an acknowledgment tone.

Call up saved steering column position function sequence
To be able to move to a stored position the corresponding memory position switch has to be pressed and held until the stored end position is reached.

If the switch is released, the adjustment procedure is terminated immediately.

The operation of the memory switch is read in by the left door control unit and passed on via the interior CAN to the front seat adjustment control unit, which as a result of this actuates the longitudinal adjustment motor and height adjustment motor accordingly.
