GF54.21-P-6050RI Steering Column Module, Component Description

Component Identification:

Location
The steering column module is located on the steering column.

Task
The steering column tube module is connected to the engine compartment CAN and interior CAN.
Communication between the multifunction steering wheel and the steering column tube module takes place via the Local Interconnect Network (LIN).

The steering column tube module has the following tasks:
^ Reading in of sensors, switches, buttons and signals
^ Actuation of components

Reading in of sensors, switches, buttons and signals
The input factors are read in with the following connections:
^ Direct line
^ LIN

Direct line
The following signals are read in directly:
- Circuit 30
- Circuit 31
- Steering wheel gearshift (circuit 31)
- Steering wheel gearshift (signal)
- Driver airbag stage 1 (circuit 15)
- Driver airbag stage 2 (circuit 15)
- Driver airbag stage 1 and 2 (circuit 31)

The following sensors and switches are read in directly:
- Steering angle sensor (N49)
- Combination switch (S4)
- Left and right turn signal switch (S4s1)
- Headlamp flasher/high beams switch (S4s2)
- Low beams switch (S4s3)

Actuation of components
Components are actuated with the following lines:
^ Direct line
^ Interior CAN
^ Engine compartment CAN

Direct line
The following components are actuated:
- Switch and controls illumination (circuit 58d) of components connected
- Yellow LED, variable speed limiter (S40/4v1) (without code (494) USA version)

Signal forwarding:
The restraint systems control unit (N2/7) forwards signals directly through to the fanfare horns and airbag clock spring contact (A45) via the steering column tube module for:
- Driver airbag squib 1 (R12/13)
- Driver airbag squib 2 (R12/14)

Interior CAN
The signals for the following control units are transmitted via interior CAN:
- Instrument cluster (A1)
- Rear SAM control unit (N10/8)
- Driver-side SAM control unit (N10/10)
- Right SAM control unit (N10/11)
- Left front seat adjustment control unit with memory (N32/1)
- Right front seat adjustment control unit with memory (N32/2)
- Left door control unit (N69/1)
- Right door control unit (N69/2)
- Overhead control panel control unit (N70)

Engine compartment CAN
The signals for the following control units are transmitted via engine compartment CAN:
- ME-SFI [ME] control unit (N3/10)
- ETC [EGS] control unit (N15/3) (with transmission 722.6)
