Component Identification:

Location
The steering wheel gear shifter PLUS is located on the right and the steering wheel gear shifter MINUS (S110/1) is located on the left of the back of the multifunction steering wheel.

Task
- Shifting into a gear from which the vehicle can be favorably accelerated or decelerated
- Direct shifting of all forward gears in Manual transmission mode "M"

Function
The steering wheel gear shifters MINUS and PLUS are read in by the steering column tube module (N80) via the steering LIN (LIN E1). The steering column tube module places the "Downshift" or "Upshift" signals on the engine compartment CAN (CAN-C). The fully integrated transmission control (VGS) control unit (Y3/8n4) receives the signal via the ME control unit (N3/10) and triggers the gear-shift operation.

Shifts, which could result in impermissibly high or low engine speeds, are not performed.
