Component Identification:

Location
The refrigerant compressor is located at the left front of the engine.

Task
The refrigerant compressor is responsible for induction and compression of the refrigerant. The refrigerant compressor output is regulated continuously up to 100 % via the compressor control valve by the AAC [KLA] control and operating unit (N22) (with code (580) Comfort automatic air conditioning) or by the comfort AAC [KLA] control and operating unit (N22/7) (with code (581) Comfort automatic air conditioning).
The control and operating unit transmits the switch-on request via the interior CAN to the driver SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1).

This receives the request and actuates the compressor control valve.
The refrigerant compressor is switched off to match the outside temperature. If the outside temperature is T < 2 °C, the refrigerant compressor is always switched off. When the A/C button on the control and operating unit is pressed, the refrigerant compressor is also switched off. The other functionalities of the automatic air conditioning continue being available. However, the interior temperature cannot drop below the current outside temperature.
