GF83.25-P-2106RCAutomatic Heater Control And Operating Unit, Component Description
- except CODE (580) Automatic air conditioning
- except CODE (581) Comfort automatic air conditioning

Component Identification:

Location
The control and operating unit is located in the center console.

Design
The control and operating unit contains the following controls and displays:
- Left temperature selector wheel (1)
- Blower selector wheel (2)
- Air distribution selector wheel (3)
- Right temperature selector wheel (4)
- REST button (5)
- Defrosting button (6)
- Heated rear window switch (N18s1)
- Air recirculation switch (N18s2)

Task
The control and operating unit has the following tasks:
^ Operation of the vehicle's climate control
^ Reading in of sensors and signals
^ Evaluation of input factors
^ Actuation of components

Operation of the vehicle's climate control
The control and operating unit enables the following operations:
- Interior temperature selection separated for the left and right side
- Manual blower control and air distribution
- Defrost function
- Residual heat utilization
- Recirculated air mode
- Heated rear window (R1) actuation

It is operated using the following controls:
^ Temperature selector wheel
^ Blower selector wheel
^ Air distribution selector wheel
^ REST button
^ Defrosting button
^ Heated rear window switch
^ Air recirculation switch

Temperature selector wheel
The desired temperature setting for the left and right sides can be set by turning the associated temperature selector wheel. The selected specified temperature is displayed via LEDs at the border of the temperature selector wheel.

Blower selector wheel
Turning the blower selector wheel enables the air volume to be manually set. The selected blower setting is displayed via LEDs at the border of the blower selector wheel.

Air distribution selector wheel
The air distribution selector wheel can be used to manually set the air distribution. The selected air distribution is displayed via LEDs at the border of the air distribution selector wheel.

REST button
Pressing the REST button activates the residual engine heat utilization function. If the function is activated, the light emitting diode in the REST button lights up.

Defrosting button
Pressing the defrosting button sets the temperature to maximum and the air flow is distributed to the defroster and side air vents. All other nozzles and flaps are closed. The blower output is regulated to match the coolant temperature. If the function is activated, the light emitting diode in the defroster button lights up.

Rear window heater switch
The rear window heater is switched on when the rear window heater switch is pressed. The LED in the rear window heater switch lights up during operation.

Air recirculation switch
Briefly pressing the air recirculation switch for t < 1.5 s closes the fresh air/recirculation flap to stop the air supply from outside. The LED in the air recirculation switch lights up during operation. If pressed for longer than t > 1.5 s, the control and operating unit transmits the "Close comfort recirculation" or "Open comfort recirculation" command via the interior CAN. The windows are then closed or opened in response.

The function is deactivated if the Vario roof is open.

The detailed convenience recirculation closing procedure is described in the convenience feature function (KFB).

Reading in of sensors and signals
The input factors are read in with the following connections:
^ Direct line
^ Interior CAN

Direct line
The following sensors are read in via a direct line:
- Left heat exchanger temperature sensor (B10/2)
- Right heat exchanger temperature sensor (B10/3)

Interior CAN
The following signals and sensors are read in via interior CAN: By the instrument cluster (A1):
- Ground speed
From the driver SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1):
- Outside temperature indicator temperature sensor (B14)

From the rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/2):
- Left door contact switch (S17/3)
- Right door contact switch (S17/4)

From the ME-SFI [ME] control unit (N3/10) via the central gateway control unit (N93):
- Coolant temperature sensor (B11/4)
- Engine speed

From the electronic ignition switch control unit (N73)
- Circuit 15

Evaluation of input factors
The input factors that have been read in are evaluated by the integrated microprocessor and the relevant components are then actuated.

Actuation of components
Components are actuated with the following lines:
^ Direct line
^ AC bus
^ Interior CAN

Direct line
The following component is actuated via a direct line:
- Duo valve (Y21)

AC bus
The following components are actuated via the AC bus:
- Blower regulator (A32n1)
- Fresh air/air recirculation flaps actuator motor (M2/5)
- Footwell flap actuator motors left and right (M2/15)
- Defroster vent flap actuator motors left and right (M2/16)

Interior CAN
The following components are actuated with the interior CAN:
By the driver-side SAM control unit:
- Coolant circulation pump (M13)
By the rear SAM control unit:
- Rear window defroster
From the ME-SFI [ME] control unit via the central gateway control unit:
- AAC with integrated control additional fan motor (M4/7)
