Task
The control and operating unit has the following tasks:
^ Operation of the vehicle's climate control
^ Reading in of sensors and signals
^ Evaluation of input factors
^ Actuation of components
Operation of the vehicle's climate control
The control and operating unit enables the following operations:
- Interior temperature selection separated for the left and right side
- Manual blower control and air distribution
- Automatic blower control and air distribution
- Switching the automatic air conditioning on and off
- Defrost function
- Switch refrigerant compressor (A9) on and off
- Residual engine heat utilization (without code (494) USA version)
- Recirculated air mode
- Switch heated rear window on/off (R1)
It is operated using the following controls:
^ Blower selector wheel
^ AUTO button
^ Defrosting button
^ Temperature rocker
^ OFF button
^ REST button
^ Air distribution selector wheel
^ A/C button
^ Heated rear window switch
^ Air recirculation switch
Blower selector wheel
Turning the blower selector wheel enables the air volume to be manually set. The selected blower setting is displayed by LEDs at the blower selector wheel.
AUTO button
The air volume and the air distribution are regulated automatically when the AUTO button is pressed. If the automatic operation is activated, the LED in the AUTO button lights up.
Defrosting button
Pressing the defroster button sets the temperature to "maximum" and the air flow is distributed to the defroster and side air vents. All the other flaps are closed. The blower output is regulated to match the coolant temperature.
If the function is activated, the light emitting diode in the defroster button lights up.
Temperature rocker
Pressing the temperature rocker enables the required specified temperature to be set for the left and right sides. The temperature is shown on the display.
With code (494) USA version "MAX COOL" is shown on the display for maximum cooling output (can be set using STAR DIAGNOSIS).
OFF button
The comfort automatic air conditioning can be switched off completely or switched back on by pressing the OFF button.
REST button
With circuit 15C or circuit 15R, the residual engine heat utilization function is activated when the REST button is pressed. If the function is activated, the light emitting diode in the REST button lights up.
Air distribution selector wheel
The air distribution selector wheel can be used to manually set the air distribution. The selected air distribution is displayed via LEDs at the border of the air distribution selector wheel.
A/C button
Pressing the A/C button switches off the refrigerant compressor. All other functions are retained.
The light emitting diode in the A/C button lights up when the refrigerant compressor is switched on.
Rear window heater switch
The rear window heater is switched on when the rear window heater switch is pressed. The LED in the rear window heater switch lights up during operation.
Air recirculation switch
Briefly pressing the air recirculation switch for t < 1.5 s closes the fresh air/recirculation flap to stop the air supply from outside. The LED in the air recirculation switch lights up during operation.
If pressed for longer than t > 1.5 s, the control and operating unit transmits the "Close recirculation" or "Open recirculation" command via the interior CAN. The side windows are then closed or opened in response.
The function is deactivated if the Vario roof is open. With code (460) Canada version and code (494) USA version, convenience recirculation closing is not possible.
The detailed convenience recirculation closing procedure is described in the convenience feature function (KFB).
Reading in of sensors and signals
The input factors are read in with the following connections:
^ Direct line
^ AC bus
^ Interior CAN
Direct line
The following sensors are read in via a direct line:
- Left heat exchanger temperature sensor (B10/2)
- Right heat exchanger temperature sensor (B10/3)
- Evaporator temperature sensor (B10/6)
- Sun sensor (B32)
- Interior air temperature sensor
AC bus
The following sensor is read in over the AC bus:
- C-AAC [K-KLA] multifunction sensor (B31)
Interior CAN
The following signals and sensors are read in via interior CAN:
From instrument cluster (A1):
- Speed
From driver SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1):
- Refrigerant pressure sensor (B12)
- Outside temperature indicator temperature sensor (B14)
From the rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/2):
