Seat Occupant Classification Module - Air Bag: Description and Operation

GF91.60-P-4069RC Weight Sensing System (WSS) Control Unit, Component Description
- with CODE (494) USA version

Component Identification:

Location
The WSS control unit is located at the seat frame of the front passenger seat.

Task
The WSS control unit has the following tasks:
^ Reading in of sensors and signals
^ Perform self-test
^ Evaluation of input factors
^ Transmitting signals

Reading in of sensors and signals
The input factors are read in via the following connection:
^ Direct line

Direct line
The following sensors and signals are read in via a direct line:
- Belt tension sensor (B48/3)
- Pressure sensor (B48/4)

Perform self-test
The WSS control unit performs a self-test when the system is started. Here, the belt tension sensor and the pressure sensor are checked. If a defect is detected, a fault is stored in the fault memory of the WSS control unit.

Evaluation of input factors
The read in input factors are evaluated by the integrated microprocessor and transmitted as a signal to the interior CAN.

Transmitting signals
Signals are transmitted via the following line:
^ Interior CAN

Interior CAN
The following signals are transmitted via the interior CAN: To the restraint systems control unit (N2/7):
- Weight class
- Occupation status (person or child seat)

Child seats must comply with the American FMVSS 208 specifications to be recognized by the WSS control unit.
