Component Identification:

Location
The steering column module is located on the steering column.

Task
The steering column tube module is connected to the interior CAN and engine compartment CAN for data exchange.
Communication between the multifunction steering wheel and the steering column tube module takes place via the Local Interconnect Network (LIN).

The steering column tube module control unit has the following tasks:
^ Reading in of sensors, pickups and signals
^ Actuation of components

Reading in of sensors, pickups and signals
The input factors are read in with the following connections:
^ Direct line
^ LIN
^ Engine compartment CAN
^ Interior CAN

Direct line
The following components are connected to the steering column tube module but are not actuated and are only looped through via the clock spring contact (A45):
- From restraint systems control unit (N2/7) to
- Driver airbag squib 1 (R12/13) and to

- Driver airbag squib 2 (R12/14).

The following components are read in directly:
- Steering angle sensor (N49)
- Combination switch (S4)
- Left and right turn signal switch (S4s1)
- Headlamp flasher/high beams switch (S4s2)
- Low beams switch (S4s3)
- Windshield washer system switch (S4s4)
- Wipe switch (S4s5)

- Cruise control pushbutton switch (S40/4)
- Resume from memory (S40/4s1)
- Decelerate and set (S40/4s2)
- Accelerate and set (S40/4s3)
- Switch off (S40/4s4)
- Control contact (S40/4s5)
- Variable speed (S40/4s6)

- Steering column adjustment/steering wheel heater switch (S59/1)
- Steering wheel heater function indicator (S59/1e1) (with code (443) Steering wheel heater)
- Steering column adjustment raise/lower, forward/back switch (S59/1s1)
- Steering wheel heater switch (S59/1s2) (with code (443) Steering wheel heater)
- Left multifunction steering wheel button group (S110) (without code (428) Steering wheel shift paddles)
- Right multifunction steering wheel button group (S111) (without code (428) Steering wheel shift paddles)

LIN
On vehicles with code (428) Steering wheel shift paddles, the following components are read in via LIN:
- Left multifunction steering wheel button group
- Steering wheel gear shifter MINUS (S110/1)
- Right multifunction steering wheel button group
- Steering wheel gear shifter PLUS (S111/1)

Engine compartment CAN
The steering column tube module reads in function-relevant information via the engine compartment CAN.

Interior CAN
The steering column tube module reads in function-relevant information via the interior CAN.

Actuation of components
The following components are actuated:
- Switch and controls illumination (circuit 58d) of components connected
- Yellow LED, variable speed limiter (S40/4v1) (except code (494) USA version)
