Function
In selector lever position "P" the cone slides between the park detent and pilot bushing. As a result the park detent is pressed against the park pawl gear. If the tooth of the park detent does not reach a tooth space when the vehicle is stationary, but reaches a tooth of the park pawl gear, then the cone is pre-compressed by the spring and is in a readiness position. When the park pawl gear turns further, the park detent engages in the next tooth gap.
In order to avoid damage due to incorrect operation, the tooth space widths are designed so that the park detent only engages when the vehicle is stationary or creeping along. If the vehicle rolls faster, the shape of the teeth prevents the parking lock pawl from engaging.
