GF82.85-P-2012CEJ Navigation Mode, Function
- with CODE (527) COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation)
- with CODE (498) Japan version

Function requirements
^ "Circuit 15 ON" status
^ COMAND controller unit (A40/3) activated using ON button on COMAND controller unit
^ Navigation menu item selected
^ Multifunction antenna (A28/11) operates correctly
^ Signals from at least 3 Global Positioning System (GPS) satellites present

General
The navigation mode is an assistant function which supports the driver in reaching his/her destination without diverting his/her attention from traffic. This is done by:
- Route planning, route calculation and destination-oriented navigation
- Visual driving instructions in form of pictograms
- Intersection zoo
- Acoustic driving recommendations
- Display of navigation maps

The location of the vehicle and the direction and distance to the destination are determined with the aid of the navigation system.

The navigation system consists of several subfunctions:
^ Function sequence for navigation mode
^ Position finding and destination-oriented navigation
^ Route guidance through voice output

The "Position finding and destination-oriented navigation" subfunctions along with "Route guidance by voice output" are described in separate documents.

Operating instructions
The navigation system can be operated using the following components:
- Left multifunction steering wheel button group (S110) and right multifunction steering wheel button group (S111)
- Audio/COMAND control panel (A40/9)
- Control buttons on the COMAND controller unit
- Voice control over voice control system (VCS)

Function sequence for navigation mode
The navigation processor integrated into the COMAND controller unit calculates the route for reaching the destination (navigation) from the data entered. The route is then calculated taking the configured options into consideration. If it should not be possible to adhere to the options, then the configured options are ignored for the stretch in question and a corresponding message is displayed as well as acoustically sounded. The configured criteria and options can be displayed and changed. Following calculation, the route is then depicted by means of arrow pictograms on the multifunction display (A1p13) in the instrument cluster (A1) or through 2D or 3D map navigation on the Audio/COMAND display (A40/8), whereupon "The route has been calculated" is then issued as an acoustic message. If the vehicle is no longer moving on the pre-calculated route, then the route is recalculated. If the recalculated values are plausible for the navigation system, then the modified route is displayed.

The control signals of the left multifunction steering wheel button group and the right multifunction steering wheel button group take the following path:
- Steering LIN (LIN E1)
- Steering column module control unit (N80)
- Chassis CAN (CAN E)
- Instrument cluster
- Interior CAN (CAN B)
- COMAND controller unit

When entered using the Audio/COMAND control panel, the control signals are sent via the telematics CAN (CAN A) to the COMAND controller unit.

When directly entered using the control buttons on the COMAND controller unit, the control signals are processed within the COMAND controller unit.
Voice input takes place via the voice control system microphone (B25/7). The spoken word is converted into an electrical signal via the voice control system microphone and forwarded via a direct line to the COMAND controller unit.
