GF82.70-P-0002TX Voice Control System (VCS), Function
- with CODE (813) Voice control system (VCS [SBS])
- except CODE (498) Japan version
- except CODE (494) USA version
Function
With the voice control system (VCS [SBS]), it is possible to operate the car telephone or audio systems by voice commands. The primary performance features of the VCS [SBS] are:
^ Improvement of the hands-free sound quality by processing the 4 microphone signals (up to 31.5.06) or 2 microphone signals (as of 1.6.06) in the hands-free system microphone group (A67b1) with noise reduction and echo compensation
^ Control of the telephone
^ Control of the address book
^ Control of the audio components
^ Control of the TV functions
^ Control of the navigation system
^ Speaker retraining
^ Voice output for dialog guide
^ Help features for the user
After activation, each audio source is muted automatically. Data transfer takes place in this case in analog form over Controller Area Network (data bus/CAN bus) (CAN) and in digital form over Media Oriented System Transport (MOST). Activation or deactivation are accomplished by actuating the VCS switch (S93/2). The user is acoustically informed of the activation through an audible beep and of deactivation via a voice output.
In addition, a background noise filter integrated into the VCS [SBS] contributes to optimizing the recognition rate of the VCS [SBS] for voice commands by the user. This allows driving noises to be recognized and suppressed by the system.
Upon activation of the VCS [SBS], speech recognition system is activated. The hands-free system microphone group then provides the possibility of operating the telephone and the audio systems using precisely defined voice commands.
Voice output of the VCS [SBS] takes place over the speaker system. After activation of the VCS [SBS], the volume setting can be changed using the volume control at the radio or at the COMAND as well as via the buttons + and - for setting specific functions and volume control (S111s1) at the multifunction steering wheel (MFL). Adjustment of the tone and volume with the VCS i not possible.
In addition to the manual volume setting, a 3-stage noise dependent volume control for voice output of the VCS [SBS] is active. It depends on the magnitude of the ambient noise level in the vehicle and cannot be influenced by the user. The VCS [SBS] also contains a priority control, i.e. if collisions occur in the control of individual components in the communication or audio system, any functions started by the VCS [SBS] are discontinued or skipped.
Example
The navigation system attempts voice output while the VCS is involved in a dialog with the user. As the voice output from the navigation system has the highest priority of all systems, dialog with the VCS is interrupted by the system, the (navigation) voice output takes place and the system then returns to (VCS) dialog with the user.
