General information
The voice control system (VCS [SBS]) can be used to call up and operate the individual functions in the driver information system and telephony. The VCS is integrated into the COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3). Voice control can be carried out by spelling out words or speaking complete words into the VCS [SBS] microphone (B25/7).

Operating instructions
The voice control can be activated or deactivated using the following buttons on the multifunction steering wheel (MFL):
^ VCS [SBS] switch (S93/2) on

A signal tone sounds after activating the voice control.

Function requirements
^ Status "Circuit 15R ON"
^ The COMAND operating, display and controller unit is activated and in perfect working order
^ Voice control system operating error-free

Voice control function sequence
The control signal from the VCS [SBS] switch is transferred to the COMAND operating, display and controller unit over the following path:
- Steering column tube module (N80)
- Controller area network bus, class B (interior compartment) (CAN B)
- Instrument cluster (A1)

Voice input is accomplished over the associated microphone, which is connected to the COMAND operating, display and controller unit over direct lines. The spoken word is converted to an electrical signal by the microphone and transferred to the COMAND operating, display and controller unit. The voice signals are amplified in the COMAND operating, display and controller unit.

Voice output is accomplished via the following speakers in vehicles except code 810 Sound system:
- Left front door speaker group (H4/1)
- Right front door speaker group (H4/2)
- Center cockpit speaker (centerfill) (H4/27)

In vehicles with code 810 Sound system, the voice output is effected by the COMAND operating, display and controller unit via the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) to the sound system amplifier (N40/3) and from there to the following speakers via direct lines.
- Left front door speaker group
- Right front door speaker group
- Center cockpit speaker (centerfill)
