General information
The individual functions of the driver information system are called up and operated via the voice control system (VCS [SBS]). The VCS is integrated into the COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3). The system can be controlled by voice by spelling out or entering complete words.

^ Cellular telephone
^ Address book
^ Audio applications (radio, Compact Disk (CD), Digital Versatile Disk (DVD), MPEG-1 Audio Layer 3 (MP3))
^ DVD video
^ Navigation

Voice control is activated by pressing the VCS [SBS] switch (S93/2). Activation is confirmed by a short signal tone.
The voice control system can be deactivated in several ways:
^ Pressing the VCS [SBS] switch again
^ Saying the command "Cancel"
^ Pressing any button on the COMAND operating, display and controller unit

Function requirements
^ Status "Circuit 15R ON"
^ The COMAND operating, display and controller unit is switched on

Voice control function sequence
The control signal of the VCS [SBS] switch is forwarded to the COMAND operating, display and controller unit via the following components:
- Steering column tube module (N80)
- Instrument cluster (A1)
- Controller area network bus, class B (interior compartment) (CAN B)

Voice input takes place via the VCS [SBS] microphone, which is connected to the COMAND operating, display and controller unit by a direct line. The spoken word is converted to an electrical signal by the VCS [SBS] microphone and transferred to the COMAND operating, display and controller unit. Voice output takes place directly (without code 810 Sound system) or via the sound system amplifier (N40/3) (with code 810 Sound system) via the following speakers:

- Left front door speaker group (H4/1)
- Right front door speaker group (H4/2)
- Center cockpit speaker (centerfill) (H4/27)
