Function
The purpose of closing the side windows via PRE-SAFE is to prevent that, if an accident occurs, objects enter the vehicle interior or that body parts (e.g. arms) of the occupants can reach out of the vehicle.

The door control units (N69/1, N69/2, N69/3, and N69/4) receive the signal for automatically closing the side windows via Controller Area Network bus class B (interior) (CAN-B) from the central gateway control unit (N93).

The side windows are closed leaving a gap in order to ensure that, in the event of the possible subsequent impact, the smoke that builds up as a result of the pyrotechnical retention systems can be exhausted.

When the side windows are closed via PRE-SAFE, the obstruction sensor is active. If required, the closing process is reversed. Automatic closing of the side windows can be interrupted at any time by manually operating the power window switches (S20/1s1, S20/1s2, S20/1s3, S20/1s4, S21/2, S21/3, and S21/4) for the particular side window.

If automatic closing is activated via PRE-SAFE during an automatic lowering process, the automatic lowering process is aborted and closing is carried out via PRE-SAFE.

The side windows have to be manually moved back into the desired position after the PRE-SAFE situation has ended.
