Range, inquiry
The range can be called up in the first function of the multifunction display (S110s3) using the system selection button (S110s3) on the multifunction steering wheel (A1p13). The scroll forward/back button (S110s1) indicates the range.
To determine the range, the trip computer in the instrument cluster (A1) needs the fuel tank fill level.
The left fuel level sensor (B4/1) and right fuel level sensor (B4/2) is read in by the rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/2) and the corresponding message placed on the interior CAN.
The instrument cluster (A1) receives this message, evaluates it and displays the corresponding value as the tank content.
As the time is only counted for "circuit 15 ON", the instrument cluster (A1) needs the information on the status of "circuit 15". This information is relayed by the EIS control unit (N73) onto the interior compartment CAN and is read by the instrument cluster (A1). The time is calculated internally in the instrument cluster (A1).
If the displayed travel time or mileage exceeds the maximum display value (99:59 hours or 40959 miles (65535 km)), the travel time and the mileage are automatically reset in the relevant memory. This preserves the relationship between travel time and mileage.
