Function
The purpose of closing the tilting/sliding roof via PRE-SAFE is to prevent that, if an accident occurs, objects enter the vehicle interior or that body parts (e.g. arms) of the occupants can reach out of the vehicle.

The overhead control panel control unit (N70) receives the signal for automatically closing the tilting/sliding roof via the Controller Area Network bus class B (interior) (CAN-B) from the central gateway control unit (N93) and closes the tilting/sliding roof via the tilting/sliding roof (SR [SHD]) drive unit (M12).

The tilting/sliding roof is closed leaving a gap of approx. 50 mm in order to ensure that, in the event of the possible subsequent impact, the smoke that builds up as a result of the pyrotechnical restraint systems can be exhausted. Automatic closing can be aborted at any time by manually operating the roof switch (N70s1). When the tilting/sliding roof is closed via PRE-SAFE, the obstruction sensor is active. If required, the closing process is reversed.

The tilting/sliding roof has to be manually moved back into the desired position after the PRE-SAFE situation has ended.

The PRE-SAFE function of the tilting/sliding roof can be switched off via STAR DIAGNOSIS.
