Function requirements, front fog lamp actuation, general
^ standing lights ON
^ Rotary light switch (S1) pulled out to first detent
Front fog light actuation in general
The front fog light actuation enables better illumination of the road while driving as well as identification of the vehicle rear end in bad weather conditions
The standing/parking lights actuation is active during front fog light actuation.
The standing/parking lights actuation is described in a separate document.
The front fog light actuation is comprised of the following subfunctions:
^ Front fog lamp actuation function sequence
^ Rear fog lamp actuation function sequence
Front fog lamp actuation function sequence
The driver SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1) reads in the status of the rotary light switch directly and actuates the left front fog lamp (E5/1) and the right front fog lamp (E5/2). Actuation of the front fog lamp indicator lamp (S1e1) in the rotary light switch by the driver SAM control unit signals that the front fog lamp actuation is active.
When the automatic lamp substitution function is requested, the front fog lamps are actuated depending on the requested automatic lamp substitution function.
For vehicles with code (494) USA version, the front fog lamps and the high beams function may not be actuated simultaneously. The current incoming request has priority.
Additional function requirements for rear fog light actuation
^ Rotary light switch pulled out to second detent
Rear fog lamp actuation function sequence
The driver SAM control unit reads in the status of the rotary light switch directly and transmits the switch-on request over the interior CAN to the rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/2).
The rear SAM control unit actuates the left rear fog light (E3e5) (for left-hand drive vehicles) or the right rear fog light (E4e5) (for right-hand drive vehicles) in line with corresponding country code. The actuation of the rear fog light indicator lamp (S1e2) in the rotary light switch by the driver SAM control unit signals that the rear fog light actuation is active.
